I assume it's a sticker on the special plate, not the ugly yellow sticker like in CA.
No mention of time limit ? (CA carpool sticker expires Jan 1 2011)

wow.. that's a good news for AZ residents

The article says a plate and a sticker, so we'll have to see. Here's a picture of the plate from the ADOT website.

About time! I ordered mine today as well. My wife doesn't drive freeways much, so I'm not sure it would be "worth" it to get one for her unless it reduces registration costs as well.

I'm going to love it though on my daily (or almost daily) commute from Surprise to Tempe.

Wow! They finally came through!!! :D

It looks like the hybrid sticker is placed in the middle of an Alternative Fuel plate

Here is the plate design that they show:

I just ordered my new plate from here:

    http://servicearizona.com/

It cost $8.00 for the plate and $1.50 for postage and handling fees. This is over and above the original plate fees.

    Best regards,

Until you realize that 118°F days during our summers really do suck. Makes you thankful for A/C.

Aww, come on now, it at least gets down to 79°F B)

I just read the governor's press release on this:

    http://www.governor.state.az.us/dms/upload...nnouncement.pdf

They're kicking the bi-fuels out of the lanes while allowing the hybrids in. I had absoulutly no idea they were going to do that. I'm rather pleased, though. There was no requirement that a bi-fuel actually use the alternative fuel to use the HOV lanes. Could get interesting, though, when everybody realizes this part.

Washington State has a bill that will go into effect on January 1, 2009, to offer alternative fuel vehicles (propane, electric) tax breaks, as well as hybrid vehicles that get more than 40mpg.

I registered today just so I could join in the celebration!!! Way to go Gov Napolitano!!!

I've been waiting since 2005, and thought I'd never see this day. I ordered my plates yesterday and they should arrive in about 4 days. :D

Lucky buggers. AZ license tax is quite steep for new vehicles (I think it was around $300 last year for my '05), but has drastically reduced rates for alt-fuel and bi-fuel vehicles. The ADOT faq for the new program clearly states hybrids don't get this boon. So, the pure alt-fuelers get tax and HOV, the hybrids get HOV, and the bi-fuels get droped from the HOV, but get to keep the tax breaks.

The hybrid HOV laws have been on the books for 10 years. There has been an unbelievable amount of foot-dragging going on in Arizona regarding hybrid vehicles.

The Governor is using this to make it look like SHE is doing something about smog when the LEGISLATURE deserves the credit for passing this law back in 1997.

It is also a shame that this is only a "pilot program".

There should be more rewards for those driving the cleanest cars. They are helping reduce the smog and cutting our demand for gas.

Great! We have a geeky friend in AZ who likes the Prius. Perhaps this'll persuade him to get one ;)

It doesn't matter to me who gets credit for what. I'm just thankful it finally got started. And since Napolitano is our governor, I choose to thank her. :)

Cool! Maybe there is still hope for Texas then - maybe our lawmakers here will see the wisdom in giving HOV access and substantial tax breaks to hybrid owners!

Who am I trying to kid? :(
