My wife and I are currently waiting to buy a Prius. (Trying to find a used 2004-06)
Then my buddy sends me this link the other day:

    http://www.soultek.com/clean_energy/hybrid...ius_in_2008.htm

Whats the deal? Should I consider waiting until 2008? With that kind of mileage I would have no problem buying brand new.

I can't really comment on waiting for a 2008, that is a decision you are going to need to weigh based on your needs and the rumored changes. Regarding the idea of looking for a used Prius, you might want to reconsider. Due to recent changes i.e. no more tax credits, gas prices dropping and no more HOV stickers in California have caused the prices to drop on the new Prius's. I have seen ADVERTISED discounts for as much as $4,000 of MSRP here in San Diego and not to mention new Toyota incentives recently as 0% on short term loans. Most of the used Prius's for sale, were purchased at or above MSRP and I don't believe you will find these prices to be much lower than a new vehicle.

Given that they didn't start releasing any 2007 models (same exact car and colors as 2006 models, just the window sticker is different!) in the US until *after* the September deadline for the full tax incentives to pass, I'd bet they also won't ship any 2008s until most if not all dealer inventory of 2007s have sold. That's just the gut iimpression I get anyway.

BTW, speaking of mileage, with the cold weather we've been having the last three weeks, my mileage has finally taken the plunge -- from 50 MPG to 47 MPG. "The horror! The horror!" ;D

I would consider waiting if my current car was ok. There are high hopes for the next gen prius, and even if it doesn't live up to hype it will be better then the 04-07's.

Ok, for the LAST TIME. The 2008 Prius WILL NOT BE A NEW GENERATION. The MY 2009 Prius will be released in late 2008 and will be the 3rd Gen Prius.

I thought we were driving the 3rd Gen already. First gen 1997 Japan, 2nd Gen 2001 USA, 3rd Gen 2004 USA. ?

Well thanks everyone for your answers, except for those with grumpy "for the last time" answers. :)

Based on the varied answers I should probably just wait until later this year to see what happens, as it seems to me that no one is completely sure.

    Cheers!

no. The system is in its 3rd generation but the vehicle is in its second generation.

The 2001 model is just an updated version of the original 97 model. Our version had new alloys, a rear spoiler, new bumpers, more powerful engine, better battery (more powerful + lighter) and 6.5" touchscreen MFD

I WISH THEY DID NOT UPDATE THE ALLOWS or the TAILLIGHT DESIGN

    BTw for ur question
NO THE 2009 PRIUS (3rd gen) might MIGHT MIGHT! be released if it is then it would be DURING Q4 of '08
so this is what i decided either wait almost 2 years or buy it now and sell it later since prius has WONDERFUL retaining value
