What does everyone use to clean the MFD ? Fingerprints fudge it up pretty quickly. I didn't want to try anything in fear of scratching so figured I would ask the question here.

I didn't see it in the manual unless I overlooked it.

    Thanks!

I use a soft cloth and a little water. I know some have other things they use, but I haven't had any problems with this way.

I use an auto swiffer for dust, and for dusting all the plastic inside the Prius. For fingerprints and more serious cleaning of the MFD, I use a cleaning kit made for notebook computers and LCD displays. It has a brush, applicator, and a spray bottle with cleaning solution. You can get them at BestBuy and other computer stores. Make sure to clean it when the car is off, or temporarily turn off the display, otherwise the touch screen will make all sorts of selections.

A slighly damp microfibre cloth cleans just about anything without damaging it. Never spray liquid directly on the MFD screen.

I'd like to also recommend cleaning and treating all the plastic with 303 Aerospace Protectant which makes dusting and cleaning it easier.

I have a screen protector on mine. I clean it with the same product I use on my laptop screen.

Recently I rented a Prius that had some major smudges and prints on the screen that would not come off with the screen cleaner. With the car off I cleaned it with Meguiar's PlastX and it worked great. Looked good as new. (I also use it on the plastic cupholders are under radio area.) Once is fine but I wouldn't do it repeatedly.

If a damp cloth doesn't do it, I'd use the laptop screen cleaner and then put a protector on it on it.

:) I keep a small microfiber cloth [like used to clean eyeglasses] in the small storage nook below the MFD for cleaning the MFD.

HINT: I don't clean the MFD with the Prius "ON" - to avoid inadvertantly pressing "buttons" - as in resetting the mile readings, etc.

What's this protector you speak of? is it a spray on or a clear cover for the screen of some sort? If it is a clear cover (which i'm assuming it is) how does it attach to the MFD? thx

Window cleaner or glasses cleaner, wiped with a rag (chiefly an old undershirt). As far as I'm concerned, one doesn't need anything special.

Mine is a clear cover that you tape over the MFD. It's custom made for the Prius, so no cutting/trimming required. Kinda tricky to put on since you have to smooth out all the bubbles. But once it's on you can't even tell it's there. Got mine on eBay.

With the cover on, now I can pretty much clean it with anything without fear of ruining the original MFD screen.. I've used the LCD cleaning wipes which I normally use for laptops, monitors etc. and found that they left some streaks. I keep a box of Armor All glass wipes in the car and have found that they work pretty well for the MFD too, although I don't know if using those wipes on an "unprotected" MFD is recommended. I think a simple wet cloth should be enough in most cases.

On a related note, my window tinter told me not to use Windex to clean the window on the inside because it would turn the tint purple. Makes me wonder if the glass wipes will cause a similar problem.

Would an eyeglass cleaner (spray or disposable wipes) be all right to use on the MFD? It seems I've heard that one should not use sprays such as Windex. I'm also looking for something to clean my Garmin GPS.

I was looking for a cleaner in Circuit City and Best Buy. The only thing they had was a smallish bottle of Monster Cable screen cleaner, which cost $25 at C.C. and $20 at B.B. I thought that was rather expensive.

Where can one buy screen protectors for the MFD?

Thanks. I went to their site and ordered a two-pack. I did a little research on Tiger Direct's reputation and was a little worried about some of the negative feedback I was seeing -- but I couldn't find this product anywhere else so went ahead and placed my order with them.

I'm assuming you didn't have any trouble with your order?

Thanks. I checked it out -- looks like it's only one screen protector. I was thinking of a 6-pack of disposable sheets or something like that.

    Does such a thing exist?
