In a previous comment here someone said the State was up to 80**** some on the decals and topping out .

last week I saw an article in the paper that said Sacramento said they had topped out on giving out the decals.
They said they havve 700 applications too many and asked people to stop sending them in.

I thought I would not get decals as I was sure I was among those 700. But, I did recieve them and they were numbered in the low 92***.

In truth, there will probably be some overlap as the paperwork gets straightened out.

    Enjoy!.

Well, they'd also have to go over the number allowed for issue due to decals that were voided due to damage and reissue or due to someone accidentally getting one that doesn't deserve one....I.E. a hybrid SUV.

A woman driving (quite poorly I might add) by herself in a non-Hybrid cut me off in the Carpool Lane on my way down to San Diego last week. I was driving my Prius with stickers AND a passenger... unlucky for this woman, we were also driving with a camera.

I'm going to email it to the Highway Patrol and see what happens.

How ridiculous are you? A lot!!

Who are you? Are you a Highway Patrol person?

    1) There is not time on the picture
    2) she may not know
    3) she may have a kid
    4) she may be in a hurry and go to hospital

there are so many reason that will tell you: IT IS NOT YOUR BUSINESS.

Ah, sounds like a guilty conscience. Drive in that lane without stickers or other passengers much?

When she finally got out of the lane we saw her from the side, there was just her in the vehicle - I could see all 5 seats, all empty except the driver's. Unless she's shipping a kid in the trunk, she doesn't belong in the lane... and if that's the case she REALLY needs to be reported to highway patrol.

However, I agree that the timestamp feature should've been enabled on my cam, and I should've gotten that second photo as well to really ensure the Highway Patrol took care of this. Next time I'll be more thorough.

The SF Bay Area poster above must not realize that carpool lanes in Southern California are in effect 24/7, so the time would be just for illustrative purposes.

Ah that's interesting. Yes people's work schedules in LA are so odd that traffic doesn't pick a time of day - it's always crowded on the highways.

To be clear, I posted the photo here to be funny - I didn't appreciate the attitude of the first post to reply, it really is just to be funny - that woman was being a d**k to everyone in that lane, and sometimes when you do that, someone takes a picture of you and posts it on the internet. And I find that pretty funny.

I believe they did start with 00001. Mine was under 01000 so it started at least that low.

It is to be expected that there will be more printed. If yours gets stolen or the car damaged, they will NOT print a custom sticker with your old number on it. You will get a new number with your replacement. They printed more with this contingency in mind.

I'm glad to hear that the DMV isn't going to print any more of those stickers. I'm sick and tired of being told off and frowned upon by prius drivers because I choose to drive an Iraqi baby eating piston engine. Yet watch untold numbers of you smug bastards chugging away on the highway in the carpool lane where your precious little "contribution" to the environment is at its least efficient. If any you actually gave 2 shits about the environment, and not just being on the cutting edge of the newest status symbol, you'd eschew the freeway all together, and drive on the city streets wherever you needed to go, putting that little electric motor (the part that really saves the environment) to actual use. Instead you gripe and complain about not getting the little sticker that encourages you to run on your 1.5 liter GASOLINE engine spewing smog like the rest of us. Get an EV or, even better for the environment, restore an older vehicle and bring it up to modern emission standards. Less energy is wasted in doing that, than making your fancy-dandy overPRIceUS.
Think about it this way, instead of having to pay 22,000 dollars or so for a prius, then the insane charge for labor to fix it if anything goes wrong (specialized technicians, the fact that the stealership will out and out overcharge you, plus costs of disposing of your batteries.) You could have an amazingly fuel efficient Honda Crx, or an ultra lean tune on a different import. Hell, you can strip the weight out of most cars, thereby increasing fuel efficiency. There are better options than hybrids. Your purchasing and ego-stroking over a hybrid vehicle is a band-aid solution to an actual environmental problem, as well as a social tragedy.
not to mention a car that feels more like punishment than driving enjoyment. A recent study (article here: http://www.askaprice.com/torque-article.as...r&item=2526 has shown that the carbon footprint, and energy impact from taking a beat up old car and working with that, harms the planet less than your hybrid.
You smug bastards should burn for your idiocy.
The amount of money you spend on these jokes of cars could have been donated to charities or environmental causes that would show more impact than your 'car', or fed the hungry, saved penguins, adopted a wolf at Wolf Park, any number of equally valuable contributions you've neglected, because this one makes you look the most forward thinking. Great job, idiots.

Can someone delete the above post? It obviously is a childish and inappropriate post in a forum meant to discuss a car he has an overly emotional relationship to.

If an admin deletes it go ahead and delete this one as well so it's not some weird post asking KTPhil's post to be deleted ;o)

It's childish to point out that you could better help the environment? It's childish to point out the fact that you are upset about not being rewarded for driving your car in a horrendously inneficient manner?

What's really childish is that someone like yourself wants to try and report someone violating a minor traffic law that hurts nobody, without examining any extenuating circumstances surrounding that person as pointed out by more reasonable members of this board. (gg priuscop).

Your "source" is a sales ad for Jeeps, check the bottom of the page you linked to. The rest is indeed a childish rant.

    no sales ad.

Even if the study is disregarded. I find it odd that a group of citizens who've put so much money and time into an invest ment to "help save the environment" are upset that you cannot drive alone in the carpool lane, again, on a gasoline engine. with milage akin to a toyota echo or even better could be had for a lot less in a tuned crx HF.

You've wasted money that could be better spent helping the environment, and your blanket dismissal of any points contained in my posts is more indicative of your desire to appear eco freindly, rather than actually be it.

I'm honestly not responding to a tirade like that. If you want to discuss your article - which has nothing to do with stickers - post it in a product lifecycle thread of which there are many, sans rant.

Let me sum it up for you then:
THE DMV IS NO LONGER PRINTING STICKERS. GOOD, BECAUSE NOW YOU AREN'T REWARDED FOR BEING INNEFICIENT. THIS SHOULD MAKE YOU RE-ROUTE YOUR COMMUTE TO AVOID TRAFFIC VIA TAKING SURFACE STREETS WHICH IS BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. AGAIN, BECUASE YOU CAN'T RIDE BY YOURSELF IN THE CARPOOL LANE. WHICH MAKES YOU CHUG AS MUCH GAS AS AN ECHO.

I ALSO CALL INTO QUESTION THE REASON YOU DRIVE A PRIUS. BUSSES, BIKES, CARPOOLS, OR DIESEL ARE JUST AS IF NOT MORE FUEL EFFICIENT! THE PRIUS IS THE NEW LEFT-WING STATUS SYMBOL. I POSTULATE YOU ONLY OWN SUCH A CAR BECAUSE IT ALLOWS YOU TO APPEAR TO HAVE THE MORAL HIGH GROUND WHEN, IN FACT, YOU PROBABLY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE EARTH ENOUGH TO MAXIMIZE YOUR EFFICIENCY BY AVOIDING THE FREEWAY IN THE FIRST PLACE.

not that you really care, after all, you drive a PRIUS. And ayone else abusing the carpool lane should be reported to the authorities.

Also, the first "carpool" lanes in Socal existed on the I-10 historically as Express lanes for the buses. These lanes happen to run next to the rail lines that run in the middle of the I-10. This is the model that wasn't followed up upon for the rest of the newer freeways and these new-fangled future Measure M "expansions" except maybe the 105 to the airport with the Blue Line.

Later, the I-10 Express lanes converted into carpool, and the rest is history.

We need more rail lines to run concurrently instead of wider freeways. Not only could it take much of the semi-truck transportation traffic off the roads, but commuter traffic too.

BTW, somebody is forgetting to factor in 15%+ energy and emissions for diesel, besides the rampant carpool violators that outnumber Prius.

I drive a hybrid to the train station and then walk to work. I could bike to the train station and then bike if I had the time.

I think I smell someone who's a teeeeny bit jealous.
Well, take heart my friend. This, as all things, will pass.

And if it passes you, well, dat's da way it crumbles - cookiewise.

what do I have to be jealous of? The fact that I can't take the supposed moral high ground? Jealous of a car that feels like a chore to drive?

also and to the person who drives his prius to the train station, with no details as to your route to the train station, I feel that you are doing it correctly, and making an effort to conserve our natural resources. I salute you for that, job well done.

The people that actually and truly care about the environment, and have a comittment, are riding bikes, busses and trains everywhere they go. they cost about 200, make no emissions, have a top speed of about 50 mph, and have a gas cost of whatever you just ate.
