Putting a slightly different spin on this topic, here are the two vehicles that replaced my 2005 Prius:
a 1993 Toyota SR5 King Cab 4x4 pickup with oversized wheels ...

...and a brand new Chinese-made imitation of a 1970s Suzuki 100cc two-stroke motorcycle, made by some outfit called Haojue.

Unfortunately the Prius was just not suitable for driving conditions in Benin, and I miss my Prius DEARLY every time I need to go anywhere.

A 1993 Honda Del Sol with only 97k on it. Replaced a small, fuel efficient sporty with a small, fuel efficient sporty! The only thing I miss is the removable hard top, which stowed in the trunk. Oh, yes, and the stick shift.

I haven't replaced any vehicles. The Prius is being used mostly for commuting. I also own a BMW and a Pontiac GTO.

Infiniti back in 2004.

However, I am now selling my 2005 #7 Prius and going back to a regular car. I am not an SUV person, but Prius style driving and obsession with mileage is just not my thing. Besides, I am kind of tired of Corolla seats and cheap beige cloth and I don't like to be stuck when snow falls. As for emissions, I'll buy my carbon offsets. Maybe I am going to miss the Prius. I don't know yet.

My new Prius replaced my 2005 Corolla CE.
I had gotten tired of driving stick shift since I drive in stop & go a lot, and had been thinking about getting an auto Corolla. I also wanted more safety (since I drive so much) so I wanted ABS, Side air bags & VSC. My car had been having a couple of weird problems, so I kept taking it to the shop. It was still under warranty, but coming up soon. If I kept it I would have to get an extended warranty and I didn't want to spend $$ on something I may or ma not stick with...
While my Corolla was in the shop (again), I test drove the Prius and made it make sense to me and my husband ;) (Basically, I fell in love;) ). I also couldn't stand the idea of getting lower gas mileage (which would be true for anything non-hybrid, as I was averaging 37MPG). Gas mileage has always been one of my main concerns when picking a car.

I voted "other." My previous car was a '91 Acura Integra 3-door (hatchback)...so not a sedan or a coupe, I think...?

And my son killed the Acura in October...Not that I was missing driving it, mind, but I sure as hell miss having it around...

I have more that doubled my gas mileage and I am loving the new tech - smart key, steering wheel controls, back up camera etc....and the versatility of a hatch. Now when I'm stopped at a light, I'm not spewing fumes! That makes me happy.

LOL, Hmmm... Needed a little more space? (The Prius looks like 2times LARGER.) How has your gas mileage compared?

Yes the Prius is MUCH bigger, although you probably wouldn't believe the things I put in it's hatch. The last few tanks I had in the Insight just before I sold it in Utah ranged from about 60.8 to 66 mpg racking up as much as 632 miles on a tank capacity of 10.6 gallons. The Prius gets about 48 to 52 mpg at around 500 miles or less at 11.9 capacity, but it's small sacrifice for a LOT more comfort and convenience (and the Prius cost 4X as much!)

You think the Prius looks big? Try comparing it with the Cadillac Escalade EXT in the background, the top of the bed is about at the roof line of the Prius:

The Cadillac gets about 8 mpg towing this trailer empty and about 6 mpg with a car in it (26ft enclosed):

Prius replaced a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with 97,000 miles. I had just added 4 new tires and a new battery (first battery replacement in the life of the car) when I found out the Prius I wanted had gone from $2,000 over sticker and a wait list to $2,000 under and available to buy the day I visited the dealership.

Now if I could only figure out a way to use the Prius to tow my 20 foot, 3,500 pound sailboat...

Hey DocVijay! I remember you from the Explorer board. Good to see you. :)

I voted small pickup because I am going to sell the 93 Toyota truck that I was using as a commute vehicle.

I also have a 97 Ford Explorer which I am planning on keeping for two reasons:

1. I need it to pull my camping trailer. I also actually take it off road from time to time.

2. Resale value is very low; its worth more to me to keep than I could get if I sell it.

I am planning to use the Prius for commuting and weekend driving and the Explorer only when I have to. It gets about 15 mpg city, 18 hwy and about 10 towing my camping trailer.

I got about 30 mpg on the 4 mile drive from the dealership to my house. :)

Why does your profile say you have a 2007 Package 9 if you got rid of your Prius?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ilusnforc @ Feb 25 2007, 04:12 PM) </div>
LOL, yes the Prius is not a large car, it's just large compared to the Insight. ;)

We purchased a new Linc. Navigator in '04, list for 64k, got a deal through friends/family z plan...saved tons. 8-12 mpg around town...wife had problems parking it. Actually went to purchase the yaris for around town, and a smaller (than the navigator) luxury sedan later. The salesman said just drive it for the fun of it......we bought it. We now want to trade it in on a new 07, touring, pkg 5, if we can find a deal.
