Screen not showing caller ID... phone or car?

It may also depend on your cellular carrier. I am a Sprint user. With Sprint we do not have to use a leading "1" before the area code and that is the way that both my phone and my car's phone books are programmed. Sprint displays the caller ID with an area code without the leading "1" as well.

The name will display on the MFD only if there is an exact match between the incoming number and the phone book entry. Are your local numbers programmed with area codes? Try editing the problematic entries to add or delete the leading "1" and/or area codes to see if that solves your problem.

 

So,

Does the Prius pull the caller's name from the cell phone's telephone book or from the Prius telephone book entry? My Razr does not support the downloading of multiple phone numbers so I would have to add them all by hand if needed

I have not bothered to program many numbers into the Prius due to the fact that the interface to use the dial by name, speed dial, dial by number features is far to cumbersome. It's much easier to pick up my Razr and initiate the call.

I use the dial by name feature almost exclusively. Works easily everytime. There are a couple of posts where I have posted the exact steps I use to place a call.

 

Ditch the 1 in both your car and phone's phonebook.

Thanks for the clarification on the phone book used, that may give me incentive to load up the Prius phone book.

I checked your Dial by Name instructions and agree that is how it has worked for me when I use the Prius system. In my case though - with the Razr - I just press the voice dial button on the phone, say the name, it repeats the name and then dials. Of course, this assumes that I have pre-recorded the name on the Razr (just like you have on the Prius). These three steps are a lot easier than the 7 that you outlined. I know that it varies by phone but, in my case, I find the Dial by Name on the Prius to be rather cumbersome when compared to the Razr.

Ahh Makes sense. I don' think I have dial by name on my phone which is why I just use the car's dial by name feature. It is intuitive by now, barely think about it when I call home as I leave the parking lot to check on my teenage daughter...
