Sliding windshield cover

I used to have one from AutoShade in my Corolla. So handy to just pull it across the windshield. The only downside was the adhesive wouldn't hold it on the windshield in the California heat, so I had to screw it into the pillar. Can't do that on the Prius, due to the airbags.

 

I've also looked at those, but I was concerned that if the air bags beside the windshield ever went off, they'd drive the shades into somebody's face.

They sure look convenient though.

Eclipse Sunshades has a good looking windsheild shade that attaches to the windsheild right by the posts. Then you just draw them together towards the middle. Reasonable on the price too. I do not have them and cannot say how functional they are though.

A week ago in Palm Springs, I saw a white prius Parked infront of Lowes.
It look so good in a Prius. I didn't know it was ecplise sunshade. When the owner
came to the car, I just had to asked. You have to see one in action.

Two things to consider: As has been mentioned, if you have the side curtain airbags, the windshield mounted shade hardware might become a lethal weapon if the bags are deployed. Second item.....the windshield pillars are already very wide and create a blind spot on either side of your forward view. Adding a shade would only make those posts wider and cut off even more of your peripheral view. I have twice nearly hit a pedestrian because of those wide pillars and they are the only design problem I have with the Prius.

I would think that the side curtain airbags are designed to pop out of the rearward side of the pillers and would push the shades toward the winshield. But I think I would hate the wider blind spots. with about a 100 ft radius curve, the pillers are right in front of your path ahead.

 

I have the visor strap-on type. While it's not a perfect Prius fit, it does cover the whole window if you unfold it completely, which I usually don't since 3/4 opened is good enough most of the times.

The nice thing about these is that they can be kept neatly out of the way. The only drawback I've found is that the thickness keeps the visors from being flipped all the way forward. But in my case I have a tinted strip so I rarely need to put my visor in that position anyway.

Hey zen,

Do those shades have a brand name or any other identifing marks on them? I've been trying to find some, and my local dealer's parts folk don't have a clue.

 

I'd like something like that for the rear hatch. I have yet to find a decent shade that works back there.

The packaging was in Japanese and I've already thrown it away. But I'll see if I can find the parts number next time I visit the service department to get my (free) car wash.

I wonder if you could convert the tonneau cover to double as a pulldown shade for the hatch?

5% tint works well for the back window.

I stopped by the Toyota Parts store today and discovered that they no longer carry these shades. In their place are the new Eclipse sliding ones instead.

The only thing I can tell you now is that the logo on my shades says "Sunnyland". Sorry.
