I sent Troy at Toyota of Greenfield my check for the 7yr/75,000 Toyota Extra Care
Platinum warranty with no deductible on 1/18 and received my paperwork today.
I am extremely pleased with the price of $695 - my dealer wanted about $1600.
I am relieved to have the extended peace of mind at such a low cost.
    Thanks so much Troy!

I just joined priuschat.com yesterday after wading through these threads on Extended Warranty. We just picked up our car on Saturday, Jan. 27. They threw all of this warranty stuff at us when we thought all we were doing was paying for the car and picking it up. We were going to decline the EW but were told we could sign up and still be able to cancel within 30 days so thought, what the heck. Should've gone with our first instinct. After we got home, we got to thinking about what we'd "bought" and it seemed really outrageously priced for what we were getting. Yesterday my husband started calling around other Toyota dealerships in the area and discovered the prices were all over the board for buying warranties.

Then I went on-line and found this website and these threads on Extended Warranties. I thought my husband and I were alone in thinking that we'd been screwed in this whole Extended Warranty process with our dealer. I so appreciate this forum to find that we aren't alone. And, after I registered as a new member yesterday, got a friendly greeting from Danny & the priuschat staff with the link to this discounted Extended Warranty site. This morning I sent in my request for a quote.

I just want to thank you for having supporting this site. Buying the Prius (now with 150 miles on it!!!) is our dream car. I've only had it less than 5 days and am enjoying the learning process with this car. I hope to keep it a long time and hence the concern for an Extended Warranty. (On the day I picked up the Prius, I donated my beloved 1981 Honda Civic Wagon with 108,000 miles to a charity school that does mechanical work on the cars and then gives to needy families. We still have a 1995 Saturn wagon...see we like to keep our cars.) ;)

We can buy this warranty up until the 36,000 warranty expires right? I'm thinking about holding off until next December before buying mine.

Has anyone had luck asking any questions of Troy through the email address [email protected]? I have 3 quick questions that I asked him about the extended warranty last week and have not heard back from him yet. I also sent an email to "Danny" asking if the email address was valid but with no response from him either. Would it be better to just call Troy? I realize he must be extremely busy with all the warranties he is selling through priuschat, but would someone who has just gone through this warranty business please advise me on how best to reach "the man?" Thanks!

I had the same experience. He is not responsive to emails and you have to call him and he takes his time getting back to you (in my case it was 2 days later). I don't know what that says about the product, but i sense you have some of the same frustration and hesitation that i feel as to wheather i should deal through this channel or not.

squall--Thanks for responding to my query. At least I know it's not just me. ;) Yes, I have been somewhat frustrated and hesitant about the product based on the lack of response. But, then, I realize that he's probably really busy writing up a lot of warranties based on the response that priuschat folks have madebeen making. I'll give him a call and see what happens. Again, thanks for your kind response. :)

The first fews tanks of gas, I got 50 miles to the gallon. After my first oil change which my salesman gave me a coupon for and had to be done at 1000 miles, the guy is sneaky, I then started getting only 43 miles to the gallon, I dont no if the oil change has anything to do with it, but I have had crappy milage since. We had a mild winter and I got the car last jan. I dont understant why but I dont lose sleep over it. When I took it in for next oil change they said ther is nothing wrong with it. That the milage varys depending on the driver, stupid me , I was thinking I was the same driver as I was last year, lol.. nice to chat with u..

oh my i need to learn how to work this, I put this message on the wrong page. hang in there with me people, ill catch on soon,,

Wow...I wasn't aware of this problem! I'm sorry some of you have been having trouble reaching me....the only time it should take more than a few hours for me to reply to an email is between Friday night and Monday afternoon and that's because I'm off on the weekends, and on Monday's I pretty much spend the day catching up on the voice/email messages I get over the weekend.

I've found in most cases, it's just spam filters catching my replies...the word "Warranty" seems to be a big trigger for them. Also, I have a direct phone line now that goes right to my desk bypassing the switchboard. That number is (413) 772-0989.

Try emailing me first at [email protected], as that address allows me to easily track that you're a PriusChat member so that Danny and PriusChat get the proper credit for any sales. But you can also email me directly at [email protected] make sure and mention that you're a PriusChat member.

    Thank You!

    Troy

I've tried to wade thru all the posts on this forum topic but there's something I'm still not sure of. My understanding is that if I cancel the extended warranty I would be refunded the pro-rated amount from the day the car was placed in service. Is that right? If so, that means that if the car was sold or totaled during the 3/36K initial warranty period I would only get back the percentage for the remaining warranty period (eg. 49/84 of the amount paid if sold/totaled in the 35th month of ownership). In other words if the car was sold/totaled during that initial period, I would have paid for the extended warranty that I had no use for since any problems would have been covered under the original warranty. If this is true, it would seem to make no sense to purchase the extended warranty until close to the end of the factory warranty period. Am I missing something?

I suggest you do not do business with this "organization". They do NOT respond and have no customer service. I have made it my job to go through Priuschat and make sure any threads that mention them also point to this thread:

    Hi Guys,

I have had the same experience writing to Troy. The last email I sent was bounced back. I finally picked up the phone to call him. but he was out of the office.

    Regards,

    Hal

I"m sure Troy could fix the problem by hiring a secretary to take phone calls, but then the price may be higher too to pay for that salary.... anyone who offers good deals and worthy of doing business with are always popular and often hard to access..... Although I"ve always gotten a response on email X 1 and the Phone X 2 now with quick results... its prob a good idea to not wait till the last second to get your warranty if you mileage is about to turn over.

We have plenty of time to adjust and brace for the expense as anytime before your warranty runs out, you can extend.

[ I actually bought a 7year/100,000 mile warranty for 970. I also bought the prepaid maiteance for 4years/55,000 miles for $815. I bought them from Jake Sacks at Crown Toyota in Lawrence, KS. He was very responsive. To contact him try [email protected].

    hey guys
i just bought a 2005 prius with 14k miles on it. i bought it from an individual in the local paper and not from a dealer. is it possible for me to get this warranty once i get closer to the 36k mark or does the car have to be from a dealer?
i clicked on the "bought my car used" icon and did a bit of research but any input is helpful.
    thanks
    jared
