Well I got mine to crash again. I switched to shuffle, and it worked for a while, but then suddenly the iPod kept going (perfectly fine) while the dash controls had no affect. I can tell when this happens as the text often gets screwed up (write song title, but the wrong album), and that it never changes even though the song does.

Unplugging it, and then plugging it back in works like a charm.

I'll report here if I can do it again. I don't use the car much (I skate to the subway whenever I can), so it may take a week. I'll try and see if shuffle will do it again.

Yup. Mine crashed today too. Maybe ours are related. Heh

Turned it on today and noted that it started at an odd spot, so I switched to Playlist 2 and jumped up a few. It proceeded to freeze playlist 11. Steering wheel and screen controls had no affect. Took me a couple of power-offs and unpluggings to get it to work again. Sigh.

I just got a DICE for my 2006 Prius. Hopefully I'll install it tonight or maybe sometime this weekend but I'll post on here how it went wrt crashes. I've got 6300 songs on my ipod so.... I'm worried it won't be too impressed by that. I'll keep you posted. Not gonna be fun installing it in 25F weather.... Yup... I live up in Canada and it's winter now so it's COLD....

    Hello Everyone! :p

Finally got a chance to install my DICE unit…

I installed my unit this past Saturday night inside my garage. I used the VAIS installation instructions as a guide. Very helpful!

I'm using the SAT mode because the CDC and MP3 mode will NOT display any text. I hear sound, but no text. I followed instructions carefully, and even pulled out the "DOME" fuse just to make sure - but no avail. I have a 4th generation IPOD and a NANO with updated firmware. I also have the latest DICE firmware. I do not know why, but it’s contradicting to what other people have posted here. I'll probably call DICE sometime this week to see why I can't get CDC to display text. The SAT mode works with a 10 character limit. Why can't the text scroll? I could have sworn I saw text scrolling the first day. Somehow it's not doing it anymore. I have steering wheel and IPOD controls in SAT mode. I put the DICE unit and IPOD in the lower glove compartment. It's working great in this mode and I haven't had to reset my unit yet. The playlist, albums, etc functions work great. The only minor issue is that I have to hit "TEXT" every time I want to search for playlist or albums. I organized my music into 6 playlist and its working great. I did notice after one playlist finishes playing the last song, it doesn't play the next playlist. I have to hit "TEXT" and then search for my next playlist under the playlist category.

I'm satisfied that my music is playing and I have steering wheel controls. It's cool that my IPOD pauses when I receive a phone call via BT. I'll keep you posted with my troubleshooting. I might call DICE tomorrow.

    Have a good night! :)

Crashed again today. Bummer is that you have to power off the car for it to reset, at least in my case. Drove 60 miles with it out.

Well it's been a day and a half now and so far no issues that I can tell. Right now I've got all the switches on OFF position. If I used the OFF,ON,OFF,OFF setup then I wouldn't get any text to show up on the screen for title and artist info.
Hey, do any of those buttons on the screen actually do anything other than look pretty? The buttons I'm talking about are the random buttons, the scan buttons and the repeat buttons. I can't tell a difference when they're activated and not. When I put my ipod on random it just seems to go through the randomized list no mater what CD (1-6) I'm on and when I've got the random turned off on the ipod it won't randomise no matter what I press on the screen.

    dzoutzidis,
My buttons do the exact same thing as yours. I don't know that they can controll the iPod (like using random) ever, or just not with this firmware. From what I can tell, the iPod seems to be more in control than the DICE unit.

Yeah for sure. The IPOD totally controls the unit it seems. I just called up tech support and they confirmed that the buttons on the screen are essentially useless. If you want to randomise your playlist you've gotta do it through the ipod. Then if you want to play them in order with playlists and albums etc... you've gotta turn random off on your ipod it seems. This is a real pain in the arse when you keep the ipod in your glove box.... I didn't want to keep it out in the open as I'm sure I'd forget to take it out of the car sometimes and somebody would break in and steal it.

Does everybody else concur with this? Any suggestions?

I'm really really unhappy with the DICE. It doesn't play nicely with SIRIUS, the support is lousy. They were supposed to have a fix for my problem months ago, and I've had no word from them. I've given up pestering them for support. Stay away from DICE. They truly suck.

My DICE did something interesting today. I started my car and the MCD was....well.....not working correctly. The only screen I could get was the Energy Monitor. The dash buttons to change screens did nothing. The wheels were turning on the animated car, but no text at all. Everything was blank. Ack. Unplugging the DICE fixed everything.

    Nice. Really nice...... <_<

    Hi everyone -

I have been notified by DICE that the time has come for us to end the special pricing for the DICE units, but they are giving us 1 more week to get orders in at the $135.15 price.

After March 12th, the price for the DICE will be going up to $144 in order to follow their minimum pricing guidelines.

Get your orders in before 3/12.

For those of your having trouble with yours, don't forget, you have a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase, so keep after DICE to get your unit right.

    Hey all.

I installed my DICE unit last week and it seems to be working ok. I'd call it a bit quirky but overall I am pleased. I have a 2006 Prius with the NAV and the JBL stereo. The DICE is in MP3 mode currently.

Is there a trick to viewing the names of the playlists or the names of the rest of the tracks on the playlist? Do they need to be named in a certain way, or do the MP3s need to be tagged in a special way? On the screen where it lists the playlists or songs, I just get "PLAYLIST" or the name of the currently playing song repeated over and over. I can never remember which order my playlists are in, so getting to a particular one is pretty tricky. ;) I don't care as much about the song titles though it would be nice to see them.

Also, should I be able to see song info in any of the other modes? I have tried them all and the MP3 mode is the only one I get that information in. Could be that I am doing something wrong.

One peeve I have is that the dock connector is larger than normal. I keep my 3rd gen ipod in an iSkin because I carry it around in my purse everywhere and it takes a beating, but with the skin on the dock connector doesn't fit tightly and sometimes it comes loose. I guess I'll have to widen the hole for the dock connector to solve this issue.

    Thanks!

If it's like the DICE for the 2004-2005 (mine is CD2), the most information you'll get is when it's on D1 and you get TITLE, ARTIST and ALBUM. On D2-D3 it's just the title (haven't tried D4 yet). Your passenger would have to look at the iPod itself for the name of the playlist. I don't have that many playlists so I know which one I'm on simply by hearing part of the first song.

I agree--I was bummed to find that I can no longer use my expensive leather Vaja case. It's not so easy to slide the iPod in and out of the Vaja, otherwise I would just drop the iPod in the case when stepping out of the car. :(

I installed the Dice unit in my 2007 no. 6. Now I'm worried about adding the XM radio. I bought the radio upgrade with the car a couple of weeks ago but I've yet to take it back to Toyota to have it installed. Now I'm worried that (1) it won't play nicely with the Dice and (2) the Toyota dealer will say "what's THIS?" and unhook the Dice unit.

    Thoughts?

fwiw I have the hard clear case that Apple sells (I forget the name), on my 80 Gb, and mine hooks up with zero problems.

Mine started acting up the other day. It was running on shuffle, and suddenly it wouldn't respond when I tryed to forward to the next song. The forward/reverse buttons acted like FF buttons, advancing within the song, but no to the next song. Switching between D1 and D3 didn't affect it.

Then suddenly it swiched to the beginning of my album list. I can tell when it does this because I know which album is first in my list alphabetically. Somehow it righted itself, and worked as promised after that, although NOT in shuffle as it was doing before.

    Wierd.

ok so i got my dice today and i installed it correctly, only problems are that there is no ifo showing up on the cd screen. everyone says that they are seeing cd 1 2 3 etc, i do not see this. the only thing it shows is Cd in the top left corner and track and time in the right, with RAND,RPT etc on the bottom. that is all. no text artist/song/ anything. i took out the dome fuse and replaced, but to no avail. i plug in my ipod, and it goes through the disk mode checkmark and switches screens on the ipod, but nothing happens to the MFD. can anyone help me with my problem please, i would really like to get this to work.

    i am driving a 2006 prius pkg #3.

    thanks -- Joe

The Dice unit is a piece of junk. I wish I hand't bought it. It worked for less than a week for me. I am thankfully able to playthe iPod in the car, but the integration with the car stereo is gone. The only steering wheel control that works is the volume. Everything else has to be controlled from the iPod. The Dice unit is, basically, a very expensive charger for your iPod. I would have been better off using the Aux input wiht a male-male "headphone" cable, charging the iPod with a Belkin connector to the "cigarette lighter" power plug. I could have had the same functionality I have now for about $30.

    Caveat emptor

Bummer for you, but I must respectfully suggest that that is not my experience.

The DICE unit is far from perfect, partially because of the way it is made, but also partially because of the way the iPod is made. Most times mine functions very well, and that suits me okay. Not great, but not bad either.
