I didn't wear a heavy overcoat when I lived in Honolulu, either. But here, I do. When it is cold out the engine warms up much quicker and stays warmer with a blocked radiator. Warm engines run better.

You don't need it but we do.

See how silly you look? Better to ask when you don't understand.

Just to add to your point.

In colder climates, cars that aren't hybrids frequently block their radiators. The Prius is especially cold blooded, since it is turned off so much of the time. My grill is almost completely blocked off, and I've never seen the coolant or engine temperature above 192 F. The next time I head over the mountains, I'll leave it blocked (the weather will be a little warmer by then), and see what the temperature gets to on long upgrades. If it doesn't get over 220F, I won't worry about it. If I does, then I'll pull over and remove some of the foam insulation.

Of course, none of us would be blocking the front end in the summer.

BTW, where is Eastern Washington are you located?

What do you mean block the grill? And how do you do that? I live in Charlotte,NC where winters are pretty mild. Temp avg here now is in the 50 to 60's during the day.

Well, if you live in Honolulu, having a heater in the car may sound stupid also... :D You just need AC right?

I just got my 2007 Prius this week, and I still have a lot of break in ahead of me. Hopefully I'll be posting something simmiliar once I "get the hang of it."

I wonder if that other prius I keep seeing on I485 is Susanne101... I'll be zooming around in my Magnetic Grey.

No, I take the other 8-9am clusterf*ck that is 190/George Bush. I saw a 07 black one last month with tint and fogs that looked pretty sweet. I've got to get some tint on mine before it gets too warm.

It definitely is a fuel issue getting the better mileage. After the 50+ mpg tank, I filled up at my usual station (Kroger) and it went back to 46 mpg. Yesterday I made a point to go back to the better performing station (QuickTrip) and low and behold, I'm averaging 54 mpg over the last 64 miles since yesterday. Summer gas blend I suppose?
