If you will scroll up at the Prius Main Forum menu screen where you see the recent threads listed, you will see a "Sticky" {semi-premanent postings} which lists the 2007 "Packages." This can provide plain English listings of the various packages offered on the 2007 Prius. Not all Regions offer the same combinations, but that "Sticky" can provide helpful information.

You might also try logging onto toyota.com and use "Build your Toyota" to determine combinations available in your area. You will need to enter your ZIP code. In the South Central Region served by the Houston TX distributer, you are able to actually see what each Dealer has in stock and available.

Your Prius needs are similar to mine, although all our 'kids" are grown. Most of our driving is 'around the Dallas Metroplex' with two or three freeway trips ~300-500 miles per year. We opted for Package 6, Touring Edition which is sometimes termed "Loaded." I avoided Dealer "Add-Ons" such as Extended Warranty, Tire Road Hazard, etc. which are very high dealer profit items. The Extended Warranty is available online HERE in PriusChat for about $950 while dealers quote as high as $1,800 or more - same warranty. This Warranty can be purchased anytime prior to expiry of the 3 year/36K mile bumper.to.bumper warranty.

Hopefully, you can take a test drive and get a little "feel" for the Prius. I am on my second Prius and find the Prius smooth... love the shiftless power.

GOOD LUCK You should be able to get a good price since many dealers have Prius on their lots. Toyota is offering some attractive financing options, too. We used the 'easy payment plan' = CASH.

 

My thinking is that I want at least a Package 2, because that is what it takes to get stability control. Everything after that I consider luxury items that I may or may not go for, depending on what they have in stock and what the *real* price will be.

Try to rent one for a week to make sure it fits your needs and that you fit in it. Some Toyota dealers have one available. Check out www.carbuyingtips.com for their advice. I am happy with my 2006 package 3. I really have no use for the other options and although the gadgets all sound great you may find the implementation to be wanting. Happy hunting.

Renting before buying is a GREAT idea. I did from Enterprise Rental Co before we bought the first one in 2005. They may still have them. They have base model.
In fact on the third day I drove the rental to Dealer and bought one.

You are a tall guy and some tall guys have reported real pain sitting in the driver's seat. By all means, rent a Prius for a few days. If you rent from a Toyota dealer, many will knock the rental price off if you decide to purchase. You have to be physically comfortable ferrying the kids around.

Good airbags are now available in all models. Get the highest model you can afford. You won't regret having any "extras".

The Prius is the smartest car on the road. If it fits you, buy one, especially now with good factory financing!

 

If after trying out the Prius for a while you decide to buy I recommend getting all the extras you can afford. Right now you can still make a really good deal and receive great financing. You will definitely enjoy the extras. With fuel prices going up for summer I can see the incentives disappearing. Heard on the news some locations allready have $3.00 plus gas.
