We would like to add XMSR to our '07 with JBL Audio / Navigation. We've researched the Vaistech unit with XMDirect but don't know much about the Toyota unit. Toyota customer experience referred me to the dealers which haven't been very helpful so far. Who has had experiences with these units and do you recommend the unit you have? Who manufactures the Toyota unit? We've read that the Vaistech unit displays up to 16 characters. Does the Toyota unit do that as well? We'd appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

I have the Vais Tech unit and I'm quite satisfied. I bought it mainly because of the 16-character display.

Thanks for the reply. Learned from local Toyota dealer after my original post that OEM unit also supports 16-char display, but there's still the cost difference. Did you install the Vaistech unit yourself or have someone else do it? Also, where is your antenna mounted?

I ended up installing it myself. That was actually the second installation attempt; the first was by Circuit City. See this thread for my experience.

When I was using the Roady, I had the antenna on the roof, at the back edge behind the factory antenna. When I went to Circuit City for the SLX install, they said they recommend placing it on the dash. My initial reaction was: hhmm, not sure about that. But when I got around to doing the installation I figured there was nothing to lose by trying it, and if it worked, it would save me the time and trouble of routing the cable through the car. Well it worked, and it will stay on the dash.
