My Prius is at port and will soon be IN TRANSIT. How long do you think it might take to go about 100 miles from the port to the dealer?

    Anybody have some insight?

My original reply was going to be: "longer than you might think."

But since it's only traveling 100 miles, it might not be that bad.

For me, I put my name on the car the day after it was declared "in port" in Portland, OR. To get it from there to Chicagoland took more than a week. I figured that long-haul driving across interstates shouldn't take more than a few days. I've driven it. But there were stops and other destinations that slowed the whole process down.

Also, there are prepping things done at port. I'm sure others here can tell you more about that. One of the things they do is remove a protective coating from the engine designed to keep the saltwater out. So it's not a case of "it hits port and immediately hits the road."

My Priuis took a week to get from the port in Jacksonville Florida to Orlando, about 120 miles

Oh good! I hope it only takes a few days. I was told 2-5 days. It's so difficult to wait. Maybe after the prius comes I can get some sleep. The excitement has given me an ongoing stomach ache for a week now. Please pray that it will comes soon. The waiting is really the hardest part.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Robbie,
I know exactly what you mean. I didn't sleep for the entire week that Priapus was "en route". Man, it was tough.

Best of luck on a speedy delivery.

If you haven't already, please do yourself a favor and scour the Files Library for all the pre-delivery checklists and other documents of things you should be aware of when picking it up.

Also, there are nuggets in the threads but you need some searching to find them. Use the Search page and look for "delivery" "pre-delivery" "tire pressure" and things like that.

I live in LA and picked mine up at Crown Toyota in Ontario. It took about 2 - 3 days to get from the port to Ontario.

    Congratulations!

Another thing that can "delay" the car is the arrival of the Certificate of Origin in the mail. My dealer makes it a policy of not telling customers that the car has arrived until the CO shows up (since he can't sell the car without it). When I went to pick up my car, it turned out the car had been physically present at the dealership for days before the CO arrived in the mail.

Did you get to pick yours up after that 7 day wait or did you have to wait once it came to the dealer? -- Like the others say above?

oh really>?? hmm i wonder if that is why my dealer had the car two days before i was able to take it...i do know that up until the actual day that i could pick it up, he could not provide a vin # for insurance purposes.

there is some dealer prep that must be done on delivery, but as i understand it, that only takes a few hours at the most.

That's what I understand too - only a few hours. And I already have the VIN number - I already signed all the papers. With my luck, it'll be a full week - but it shouldn't -- the port is not more than 100 miles away - Port of L.A.

Mine was "supposed" to arrive in Portland a week ago (September 9). The dealer is about 200 miles away. I was told "a week to ten days" in a manner that made me think they've said it a million times. Couldn't reach anyone who knew anything today, as my salesman is off on Thursdays...hope tomorrow's the day! (Already have VIN)

Boy, my memory is getting fuzzy, but I think my dealer told me 10 days to two weeks, with an outside possibility of 3 weeks, and then it arrived after only a week.

But what I remember clearly was on a Monday evening he phoned and told me it was at the dealership, but the service dept was closed for the day, so they would not be able to prep it until Tuesday, and I'd get it Wednesday morning because the battery had to be charged overnight.

But Tuesday late morning he phoned again and told me it was ready. He had been mistaken about the battery. The Classic had required that, he said, but the '04 didn't.

This salesman kept lying to me. He told me 12 weeks from deposit to delivery, and it was 9 weeks; he told me 2 to 3 weeks from port to arrival, and it was one week; he told me a day and a half to prep it, and it was half a day. But he was just a young kid; probably didn't know any better. :D

Mine arrived at the dealership about 6:00am and I drove off the lot at 2:00pm the same day.

Robbie... My dealer (Denver) had told me that the car was shipping on the 15th of July and I'd see it about the 25th... I looked at the shipping schedule and no ship was due that day... I thought maybe it was shipping by truck from LA or Portland... I thought hmmmm, car hauler multi-stops, should not take that long... checked out the dealership... but NO Prius... salesman e-mailed me about the 22nd and said he messed up and it would be in Denver by the 10th of August... again I looked at the shipping schedule... woo-hoo, boat in Portland on the 2nd and in LA on the 4th... thought I have my car no later than the 10th...given the trucking or train shipping... on August 1st at 10:05 am the phone rang and it was my salesman... saying my car was in and what time on the 2nd did I want to pick it up.... My guess the dealers really are not sure where the cars are until they actually see them...

here is the shipping schedule for September,

I think I speak for every one at priuschat... You will love the car... no mater WHEN you get it... and like I always say... "IT'S WORTH THE WAIT"

2-3 Days for mine after it hit the port of New York. Dealer is able to track almost in real time.

Re: If my Prius is AT PORT - how long should it take to arri

I have a question for you all who were informed that your car was coming through a port: was this the car you ordered or was it one that just happened to be close enough? We ordered a car in March and were told not to expect it until Sept or Oct, but now the salesperson has asked if there was any other package(s) and color(s) we would except. I figure if I ordered a car and waited over 6 months for it it should be what I want. Is Toyota not filling orders and just making what most people want and letting the rest of us live with that??? :?

It is not like I am asking for anything too unusal - Tideland or Seaside AM. We have talked to another rural dealership that has more cars than orders, but all they have offered us is white BC. Personally I can't stand white (goes back to a 'traumatic' childhood with every bicycle I was given being white), so we have passed.

When we ordered the car the salesperson made it sound like he would be informed when OUR car is shipped from Japan, but the more I read, the more I think that is not the case.

    Thanks,
