No servants. But I do belong to different social clubs and organizations. I am proud of my serving to help where I can. It is a shame that a lot, not all, of the younger generation, will not take the time or effort to join these various service organizations. The Lions Club helping not only the blind but everyone, the Elks Club, the Masons, who support and fund the Shriners Hospitals for Children where no one is ever charged a fee reguardless of race, color or creed, and ever other service club. They are all very dedicated in their efforts to support the greater population. These and every other service organization are losing members as the older generation passes on. They all need help.

    1)No...unless a camera club counts?
2)Not really....house cleaner once a week is as close as it gets, sometimes my kids will get me something I need. Oh, and a guy mows the lawn once a week or so in the summer (5.5 acres).

No servants, but I also have a housekeeper who comes once a week, and in the summer I have a gardener who also comes about once a week and a guy who mows the lawn who comes a couple of times a month.

I don't belong to any Real Life social clubs; I sometimes attend local political meetings which often are as social in nature as they are political. I am on a few Internet boards, though.

I do everything myself....mow the lawn, gardening, house cleaning, cooking, laundry, cleaning the gutters, painting various rooms when I've a whim, painted kitchen cabinets (don't try this at home!), installed kitchen island, hang curtains, paint shutters, removed chain link fence, hung new closet hardware.....did I say that I've a lot of nervous energy?!?!?! But really, my husband drives 2 1/2 hours round trip everyday to work. I'm just picking up the slack so we have more time for fun stuff and together time on the weekends. He's now searching for a job closer to home so we'll see if this works out a little more equitably for me. However, I will forever remain a servant to my cats.

I don't ever think I'll have a cleaning person. It would drive me crazy to have a stranger in my space.

No "social" club but I volunteer with various groups of people.

This is too true. Or, at least that's what my two cats told me to say. :p

social club? nah, just occasional social outings with fellow grads, at least the ones i can tolerate. and i'm like ssimon, i spend a lot of my free time picking up slack so that when my husband is actually home we can hang out.

except that rather than spending those extra hours per day driving, he just works insane hours.

I usually have my valet accompany me to my Gentleman's Club. He gets a kick out of having the chauffeur deliver him back to the manse in time for the pastry chef to assemble the petits fours.

" Are you a member of a Social Club and, have you servants at home?"

What a snooty question! And your comma is in the wrong place. It really should precede the conjunction. (Oh..Sorry.. you wanted civility. No to both)

    Dear Aunt

    Correction noted. :)

Just wondering if there are any “old money†among PRII owners.

Not old money here. Got lucky and played smart during the dot-com years.

If by "do you have servants at home" you mean "do your cats poop in your house and expect you to take it away," and by "are you a member of any social clubs" you mean "do you thank the bagger in the grocery store checkout line," then yes. I am a member of a social club and have a servant at home.

I am in the University of Michigan Ballroom Dance Club (and in the Team - taking a break this semester though). Does that count?

My family has a servant back in Sri Lanka. It is very common to have one, even if you are middle class. It's quite opposite to US from what I see. Mostly these 'servants' stay with the family for many years. Our servant came to help out my mom when I was 7 years old, which is 20 years ago. She is still there, although not regularly as it used to be. I didn't have any siblings, so I used to talk to her a lot when my parents weren't around. I used to watch her cook and sometimes ate with her. I used to play with her son (who died 7 years ago). She is like an aunt to me. She cried a lot at my grandmother's funeral (she passed away in Dec, and lived with my parents for the last few years). She constantly asks about me from my parents and gets very happy when I get to talk to her on the phone. I know many 'servants' who have been with families for decades like this. It is not a social status at all in Sri Lanka to have a servant.

Oh, Annoying One: In trying to correct the sentence, you created what's known as a comma splice. Keep the conjunction "and" where it was, but move the comma in front of it. Either do that or replace the comma with a semicolon, or make each clause a separate sentence.

    Thanks,
    B.
