Help! Here's my tale of woe. After reading about the xm installation on a basic Prius ('07) I bought the kit and following Prius thread instructions, put it in my car. I checked it for signal and got SAT 1, SAT 2, etc. I buttoned the dash back up and got nothing. I took it apart again and checked all connections, etc., but still got nothing.
I decided it must be a faulty terk unit, so xmfan store let me send it back and replaced it. I again installed it (thinking about putting zippers in), but got zip, ziltch, etc. Now I'm thinking it might be the head unit in the car, but when I talk to my dealer and admit I'm putting in an aftermarket unit, they just stare at me and shake their heads. They say they have no way to test that plug in the head unit.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I just replied in the other thread...try cycling through the sources (AM, SAT) many times with the AM button and the steering wheel. It took me several tries, like the car had to "discover" it.

Is there a tech support number for Terk you can call?

When you say you "get zip" do you mean that the radio doesn't even come on?
Or that you're just unable to toggle to Sat1, etc.?
My first thought was that maybe you popped the fuse for the factory radio......but if it's working for
everything else then that couldn't be it.

The radio works on all channels except the sat channels. When we called Terk they said it was not compatable with the Prius. I have cycled through the presets several times, but I'll go back and try again. Thanks for the replys.

Cycling didn't bring it up either. I have now ordered a kit through my dealer and it may turn out that something is wrong with the head unit, so we shall see. XMfan store would not take it back claiming if Terk doesn't list it as compatable, then I am SOL.

I had my XM unit go out this morning...I was listening to it on the way in, switched to FM, and then back to AM, and instead of bringing up SAT1, I got AM. Hit AM again to no avail. Cycled through the sources several times with no luck.

I parked at my office, turned the car off, then back on, and tried again...no SAT. Turned it off again, then back on, and it worked!

I have no idea why this happens...but try being REALLY persistent with it before you scrap it.

I cycled from AM to FM more than 24 times, disconnected everything, then connected and did it again for at least that many more times. I have given up on it. There must be a reason Turk does not list the Prius as compatable. So if anyone wants to try xm, Turk style, I'll sell this kit. I still think it might be a problem in the radio itself. :(

I am supposed to get a unit from Toyota Thursday and I'll let everyone know if it works.

Speaking from experience with my factory integrated Sirius tuner (not Terk, but Directed Electronics),
I can tell you that there does appear to be a "boot up" period wherein the car's bus system is "discovering"
the connected devices. I've noticed that if I interrupt it (but getting antsy and pushing buttons) before it's done discovering what's connected then it may quit that discovery process and not "see" the Sat tuner.
Like others have mentioned, the only way (I've discovered) to get around it is by shutting off the car & turning it back on again (this time not pushing any buttons before it's done discovering).

My dealer put in the xm addon, couldn't get it to work and then decided my head unit was not compatable. Since everything else works on the radio, they wouldn't send the unit back for warrenty because Toyota says it's not compatable. Oh well, guess I'll replace the Skifi unit I had before I got excited about integrating. :(

Not one to give up, I figured I'd give it one last try. My son found on the Toyota web page where you could "build your own Prius." He put in my car, and one of the accessories available was the xm radio. So I marched that down to the dealer. The first fellow I talked too just shook his head, said there was nothing they could do, so I asked to see the service manager. I overhead him saying "we don't want to waste our time putting in an aftermarket piece of equipment", so I asked to see the head honcho.
His tune was entirely different, and after I told him I had gotten pretty good taking the dash apart (I credit Priuschat for that), he said okay, and brought a brand new Prius with the same radio into the front end of the building. He asked me what tools I needed, and away I went.
Sure enough when I cycled through the modes, up came Sat 1, etc. So he swapped me radios and I now have xm. There had to be something wrong with the auxiliary plug (in) in that first radio.
Thanks to all who replied. The Terk unit does work in the Prius, basic radio, and if Terk had owned up to that it would have helped my cause.
Both Toyota and Terk said it would not work, but, again, thanks to Priuschat I kept pushing and now I have xm.

SWEEET!!!!!! I am so glad you didn't give up!

Do me a favor and let me know if you ever have an issue where it quits working until you power cycle the car.

    Congrats! Enjoy it!!

I have the same issue with my 2005. 95% of the time, everything works fine but sometimes, the XM will just go away. I first noticed it after using the handsfree for a phone call one day. Since then, it just happens randomly. (Crusin down I-65 and all of a sudden the song goes away).

I have the Terk Kit installed. FYI: I have a Terk kit in my '04 Dodge Intrepid and it works all of the time.

I am also having an issue with the MFD showing no speed / arrows / temp / MPG occasionally. I am posting about that in a different thread but any advice is appreciated.
