Factory XM killed entire MFD

    Has anyone seen this before? I have had a Toyota factory XM Radio that I bought from coastal installed for over a year now. It seems to have failed and in doing so, it disabled everything else on my screen. No climate control, no other audio at all and nothing on the Info screen and no more NAV. Once I disconnected the XM radio, everythig came back. I guess I was just surprised that it could affect so many other systems. you would think that if it failed I would just lose XM.

    Anyway, my question is do you think that it is more likely the receiver that is bad, or the connection between the receiver and the radio? I installed this myself and have no reason to suspect the cable, but I would hate to buy a replacement unit only to have it do the same thing. My wife had a spill of fabric softener in the back of the car near the receiver, so I suspect that it is the unit itself, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

    Yes, I hope you tried plugging it back in. The devices on that auxillary bus are always powered and may not be reset or "rebooted" until you disconnect them or pull the radio's fuse. It would be wrong to assume that the XM radio gets reset whenever you turn off the car.

    For instance, my wife's Dension ICE-Link (an iPod adapter) often hangs and stops working until it is unplugged and reconnected, and then it pops up a configuration screen that you only see right after it's plugged in. (I got sick of taking things apart to unplug and reconnect the ICE-Link so I added a push button to disconnect the power to the ICE-Link.)

    So, its very possible that if the XM radio got confused and was hanging up the bus, disconnecting it and reconnecting it may be all that was needed.

    When I plugged it back in, it worked at first. Then about 2 hours later killed everything again.

    Perhaps there's a problem with the connector and vibration causes it to come loose.
