On my '06 you have to program the voice tags into the car. The car then associates the voice tag with the programmed number in the cars phone book and dials that. The car does not use any of the "phone internal" facilities. All it does is send the phone number to the phone, nothing else. I have a Verizon E815M ( M because it was hacked to enable OBEX). What I see on the Prius phone display is a virtual duplicate of the upper right screen corner of the phone (signal strengh, battery condition, blue tooth indication). Otherwise the Prius system is totally independent and just acts as a dialer when you make a call.

The more i play with my car the more I think that the "bug" that I mentioned in an earlier post is more an error on my part. I was messing with the phone while my wife was dialing and I think I was not doing things right.

I will update my assessment of the way I think this works and you can let me know what you think. Note that my car is the 2007 with package #3 (NO Navigation).

    1) The talk button does nothing if the MFD is on any non-phone related screen.
    2) If the MFD is on the main phone page (the phone pad page), the talk button prompts for a number.
    3) If the MFD is on the phonebook page, the talk button prompts for a name.
    4) if the MFD is on any other phone related screen, the talk button prompts for a command.
    a) saying the command "dial by number" brings you to the main phone page. Subsequently pressing the talk button prompts for a number.
    b) saying the command "dial by name" brings you to the phonebook page. Subsequently pressing the talk button prompts for a name.
    5) If you are moving, pressing the off-hook button brings you to the speed dial page (classified as an "other phone related screen"). Subsequently pressing the talk button prompts for a command.
    6) If you are not moving, pressing the off-hook button brings you to the phone main page. Subsequently pressing the talk button prompts for a number.
    7) If, while moving, you tell your wife to press the off hook-switch (which brings you to the speed dial screen) and then you press the back arrow button (because you haven't set any speed dial numbers yet) brings you to the main phone screen and then you tell your wife to press the talk button, the system prompts for a number. Not realizing what's going on, you mistake this as a bug and make a retarded post on priuschat.com. Then you have to re-post a longer post when you realize what happened.

Note that the above doesn't apply to those with a navigation system as pressing the talk button prompts for a command regardless of what the MFD displays. This is because the cars with navigation have more commands than just phone related ones while those without navigation only have phone related voice commands. (I'm guessing here)

I don't know how this applies to other years.

I haven't set up any voice tags on mine yet, but do I understand that if voice tags are indeed set up, one can dial numbers NOT in speed dial when moving???

Correct. You would dial by name in that case. You can also dial by number while moving by speaking the digits when prompted by Jill

I am also having some problems with response to the "off-Hook" button. After going through the voice commands and getting the proper responses I press the "Off-Hook" button on my stering wheel to intiate dialing but it does not seem to work. Nothing happens??? I did get it to work a few times but it is very inconsistent. I'm sure I must be missing something. Any suggestions. I have an 07 with Pkg 6 Nav System.

    Thanks, Jillie

I have found if I push the off hook switch too quickly, it does not initiate the call. I always wait until I hear the radio come back on after Jill says to push the off hook switch and the call goes through then.
