What do you keep in the lower compartment in the trunk?

Did a spring cleaning of my car and came across that hidden compartment in the trunk, and the blanket, jumper cables, ice scrapers and other winter stuff I kept in there. I had forgotten about most of the stuff in there. Come to think of it, I probably would never be able to get the jumper cables out if I ever needed them...

What do you keep in there? Do you even know what's in there? Share the secret contents of your secret compartment with us!

    Paper towels and cleaning wipes
    Microfiber towels
    Digital tire pressure guage
    Locking lug nut socket
    Nitrile gloves
    Jumpsuit to go over clothes
    Synthetic chamois
Cold bag for when I pick up frozen/cold food at the grocery store

I keep the tire iron and jack crank down in the spare tire well so I won't have to dig them out of the bottom of the box, though I keep the locking-lug socket in the box to make tire rotation simpler.

I just put my laptop computer in there once in a while. The rest of the time it's empty space.

Wow those are some great ideeas. I currently have just a a couple cinch downs for transporting larger sized items requiring the hatch to be open, i.e., new patio tables, but will be upgrading my compartment soon.

Good topic for one to reflect on their organization and preparedness skills.

I agree those are good ideas. I keep my snow brush, jumper cables, and my orginal mats in there cause i swapped out all my mats for weather proof ones direct from Toyota. They are wonderful mats btw.

    A partial list:
    • Jumper cables
    • Leather gloves
    • Nitrile gloves
    • Small, folding shovel (in case I get stuck in snow, which we haven't really had any of since I bought the car)
    • Ice scraper
    • A collection of infrequently-used maps I've accumulated over the years (I keep those I use more often in the drawer below the console)
    • Lightweight blanket (mainly for my fiancee to use when I'm freezing her out of the cabin in the winter)
    • Sweatshirt for my fiancee (ditto)
    • Small air compressor (carried mainly to inflate my bicycle tires when I'm hauling the bike, but nice to have for the car if I ever need it)
I can't remember what else is in there at the moment.

One thing I considered carrying that may prompt a chuckle: a bedpan. I actually carried that and a roll of TP in my previous vehicle when my three daughters were younger. It came in handy a couple of times when we were traveling. They don't ride with me as much now, and I seriously doubt they would use it anyway (one's grown and the others are teens). My fiancee insists she would never use it, so no need for it now.

A roll of paper towels and a box of swiffers for dusting all of the plastic. I don't like to keep anything hard or heavy in there unless it's wrapped with padding, otherwise I hear it sliding back and forth around every corner, and all we have up here are corners that pass as roads.

I carry a full on emergency medical bag and flares. I only had to use it once it was on the open road and I was the first one to happen upon the accident. We were out of cell phone range so that sucked. The husband had fallen asleep and ran off the road. He had a broken arm and was bleeding. The wife was confused about what was going on so that had me worried. The state trooper showed up and called an ambulance. It only took the paramedics about 45 minutes to get there. I was glad to see them and get out of there.

I was hoping for more strange objects. So far, the bedpan wins, the food supply "just in case" is a good runner up ;)

Um, I have a question about the stick. I assume it's for self-defense? What, when you're being carjacked, do you tell the car jacker, "Um, could you wait right there? I need to get something from my trunk first!"

Unless you're using it for bowling ("You're out of your element, Donny!"), then it makes sense.
