windshield reflections

I've read of people applying a strip of felt above the HUD hood but I found that there is no need to turn the dimmer "way low". I just turn it down just under "the hump" and it disappears just enough that I don't really notice it. Since I will use every opportunity to complain about this when the opportunity arises, it's a flaw that could be partially resolved with DTRLs/auto interior dimmers.

 

The felt doesn't have to go over the HUD hood. You can put it on the dash along the opening on the side closest to the driver. I used other material, but it works fine.

 

Good question, as a noob I figured others had to have a good solution for this. Good to know.

 

Also, many people don't have trouble with glare on the windshield. The glare problem is highly dependent on your viewing angle. A piece of dark felt or other matte material on the top of the dash seems to fix the problem for most.

While looking from the outside trying to figure out the glare I see that there is a small mirror mounted in the dash just in front of the dash readouts...is this the source of the glare ??
If we cover that over will that do the trick or make it to dark to read ...better just to use the felt above the dash instead ?

In a sense, yes. The display itself is inside the dash and it uses a couple of mirrors to bring it up to you. Part of the display light gets past the top of the dash and hits the windshield. You can either put the felt on the top of the dash, or make the opening in the dash smaller. A piece of felt on the side nearest to the driver should do the job.

 

I figured out how to get the speedometer glare off the windshield thanks to this thread. However, how do you get the bright lights icon and the turn signal icon glare to go away? Adjusting the dimmer wheel doesn't do the trick....any suggestions?

There's no way to dim the panel lights other than the speedometer section in the recessed area. In the 2004 and 2005 Prius there was a panel light which indicated low outside temperatures which might lead to road icing - it looked like a snowflake on a highway. This bothered some Prius drivers to the point they stuck a piece of black eletrical tape over that area so they just didn't have to see that symbol. Perhaps you could find some tape similar to scotch tape but tinted if the bright lights and turn indicators bug you... only solution I could imagine.

ASIDE: Too bad the Dallas Area Prius Meetup Group disbanded. We used to have about 20+ attendees in 14 to 18 Prius show up for Saturday or Sunday lunch at a restaurant with adequate parking... **SIGH**

I'm still trying to figure out how the turn signal and other indicator lights reflect on the windshield. I understand the speedo readout and guess gauge.

I was woundering if there was a Dallas area group....hmmmm.

Is there somekind of window tinting that is peel and stick, that I could cut to fit? I was thinking of trying the baby tint that some folks put in their windows for the little ones, but wasn't sure that would work or not. I don't want to do anything that couldn't be undone later on. The light is just so bright that it interferes with me using my brights. It's either use the brights and not see thru the windshield because of the blue, bright light icon, or not use the bright lights.

Oh, well. I will try to think of something. I can't believe that no one has had this problem...can it be that my light is brighter than the norm?
