Being a SIRIUS subscriber, i would like to install, under the radio/6cd player a stand alone sirius radio, however, ive yet to find one that would fit under the radio that is only satellite radio and not am/fm satellite combo...i do have an audiovox "square rcvr", however, that wont fit, and i hate to side mount it(along with an FM modulator, which i would have to do and use 88.5MHZ on the FM) ...what i would like to do is to have the satellite radio work remotely ,like the radio from the sat 1 or sat2 display and workable from the steering wheel as the rest of the system is...any ideas from anyone...thanks... tideland #9,

I bolted a Brix Stream UNDER that cubby. I'll try and get some pics here later this week. It is bolted to the black panel under the cubby. I'm going to install an EMPEG play in the cubby when Costal Dave finishes his AUX-IN kit.

was working on sirius radio with receiver and modulator...real pain...kept blowing fuses on gps display and radio itself...even though 12v dc switching was correct and ground was good...even replaced modulator figuring it was internally shorted...ultimately i removed 12v modulator wires and reestablished the original connection and the radio and gps work fine...so i guess im going to have to switch 12v off the cig lighter down by the passenger area...unless somebody has a better idea...

I got all excited when I posted the message at:

    http://www.priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3514

If you read the thread you will see why I became disappointed.

In email, the person told me they figured it would cost them US$40,000-$50,000 to develop an interface that would permit a Sirius receiver to use the 2004 Prius screen system. They thought they would not recover that money.

    Sigh.

Today I bought an Audiovox PnP2 with car kit on Ebay. I'm still hoping that in a year or two someone will decide they can recover development costs and work up a Sirius interface for the 2004 Prius audio display.

An update for any SIRIUS subscribers out there...was able to finally get SIRIUS radio going in the prius...however, when installing, do not get your +12v dc and switchable +12v dc from the plug out of the back side of the am/fm factory radio...if you do you will short out a 7.5 amp fuse for the radio and display...for the modulator get your switchable +12v dc and continuous +12v dc from the cig lighter under the storage compartments(passenger side), either from the plug itself or tap it from the back side...this circuit is good for 20A so a modulator will do just fine with plenty to spare......ran the sat rcvr then under the passenger seat and put it beside the amp already there for the stock radio... antenna on the hatch just below the am/fm and boom ...signals full strength...head of the radio fits perfect under the stock radio and door shuts nicely for a nice glow at night...

Can you provide some detailing of how you ran the antenna cable from the antenna to the radio? I'm guessing the cable can just run through the joint between the roof and the liftback. From there, what route did you use to cover the cable from the liftback area to the radio?

the antenna "cable" is, in essence, a wire, looks like a#20 or smaller, so the wire run was easy...it just slips through the hatchback and the roof, then i went to the passenger side and went under the molding to under the seat...the plastic molding is snap on/off, so it was easy to do...went from the top of hatch down along the side to floor and where the door jam is went under the seat from there to the plug in to the rcvr...

I just had Sirius installed in 04 Prius. JVC unit. Unit has holder with large suction cup designed for windshield mount.
I stuck mine to the bottom of the open drawer in the front of the arm rest. I used double stick tape to put a small square of glass on the bottom of the drawer for excellent suction cup hold.
The unit is not hardwired. It plugs into cig lighter. Radio tuned to 88.3 activated Sirius reciever. Works great! Love Sirius.

    Sirus / CD capability

Hey Wb, do you know if this could work in the 01 prius? Also that bit about making the power come off the main system... I attempted to do this earlier and had some problem with my display kinda "shorting" would get staticish... more like distored, when I had the cd player hooked up... is there any info you could share? or anyone else here?
    Thanks!

Dont know about the 01 prius, however, the safest bet would be to try to get the+12v independent of the stock radio and get it off the fuse box or cig lighter...the display gets real "goofy" when you put a load, even though the current draw is nil, on it...so given the sirius radio tends to want to run +12vdc to ground and pop the fuses when going into the display voltage...go to +12v to the battery if you want...it would require running a #14g wire but still it beats screwing up the display...

Okay, I should have done that (ref to straight wire to battery)... maybe you or Danny (whose offer of Sirus subscription I am contemplating!) could point me to some sort of installation guide for cd player (or even the Sirus radio). Do I need to hook the thing up to the IEbus??? Last time I had my wiring right... but CD wouldn't play over the system, and the tape eject button wouldn't work.
    Any ideas?

Danny: What new Serius P&P 2.6 unit do you reccommend? I will use it at home 85% of the time, on long Prius trips 10% of the time and at Lake Powell once a year for a week. I will be happy to activate it through you.

I really don't know enough about Sirius' hardware to make a recommendation, but you can check out the various Sirius fan forums:

How did you deal with the "tail" on the antenna? I planned to put my antenna just behind the am/fm antenna, but the thick part of the tail is too thick go wrap through the space between the roof and the liftback.

I saw the photo of the Kenwood KCA-R71FM nicely installed in the space below the 2004 JBL radio. How does it connect to the radio? Wireless FM or hard wired? Is that the whole unit or do you need another box somewhere? I plan to use mine mostly at home and only in the car when I take long trips.
