I saw Space Captain and the World of Tomorrow today. I think the critics are crazy this is a good film and great fun. It recreates much of the great old classic Sci-fi and comics of my misspent youth. Defiantly a keeper.

ahh henry, those are the same people who said a fantasy film would never win the oscar for best director or best picture... then along came a little trilogy about a ring...

I'm so excited to see this thing...I love the concept, the cast, and the previews make it seem almost dreamlike it it's recreation of the 30s era space films.

    Isn't it 'Sky Captain'?

my wife and i just saw it today and we both loved it. very fast moving, with a wonderful buck rogers feel.

and the critics here (long island) liked it, so i guess i was surprised to read above that some didn't, but that's always the way.

it was a great movie and i loved the way they made the backgrounds like the city buildings look like a comic book scenery.

although the comedy was canned and dated, it was still refreshing and spontaneous.

and just like the 1930's depression era comics, there was plot twists galore.

Easy to do that when the whole movie was filmed in front of a blue screen & the only thing real is the actors :)

Made by a guy who loved the old Superman cartoons. Can't wait to see it myself.

I was seriously wondering if it was the director's intent to have the scenery and everything look like that. Nothing turns me off more than CG gone bad.

    Gullom, good. Godzilla 2k, bad.

Yea, it's intentional...supposed to be a flashback to the 30s era space movies and to recreate that whole B&W dreamy feel. The previews just have me razzed.

The one thing I've heard is, don't go in with high expectations for performances and characterization.

Yup, it's an homage to 30s serials -- down to the acting.

believe me the corny lines, sight gags and the plot are all done in jest. it is a comedy way more than its an adventure. but it is adventuresome too. very fun movie to go see.

I have a Star Trek Science Officer's uniform (complete with communicator pin and rank pips). Perhaps I should wear it more often once I get my (Voyageur Silver) Prius - should turn a few heads on the highway with my Vulcan eyebrows.

Does anyone have the Crimson Sky video game?

In that game, dirigibles were made into landing strips and it was set in the 1930's in an alternate history.

This movie is so much like it yet I've not seen the video game credited.

It had a very similar feel to it like this movie.

Yeah, I have the XBOX Crimson's Sky's and the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer for this movie was if Microsoft was making any money off of this. Neat game by the way, and it also had tons of corny one liners that made me crack up. There was one landing strip in the game that the only purpose it served was a brief movie about him landing and running to go to the restroom.

Saw this last week, and had a very good time.

In short and in summary, a fun movie. I watch a lot of old black-and-white movies, and I really enjoyed both the stylistic attempts to imitate the period mood, as well as the dialogue between the leads.

They managed to do a good job playing it fairly straight, and not doing the wink-wink-nudge-nudge to the audience -- but still making it funny at points -- Indiana Jones humor, without the gore. Doesn't ever camp it up, too -- quite an accomplishment.

Also, you can take your kids to go see this; no more sex than your average 30s Cary Grant/Katherine Hepburn film, and the violence is serial bang-bang zap. Not sure it'll move fast enough for them, though -- a lot of the enjoyment is in the period detail.

I may have to buy this on DVD. (I, in fact, may have to go see it a second time.)

I saw it over the weekend at Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood. Huge screen, loud THX, great fun.

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a movie. Great eye candy in the visuals and just an all-around good time.
