Doesn't matter wether you engage park or not before turning off. You described normal operation. I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can do to make it act like the classic.

Dont know if I'm doing something different but I've never seen my MFD reset the MPG & Miles after refuleing (either on my 04 or my o6)

On the 2006 the miles reset on the MFD every fueling over a couple of gallons. The mpg is lifetime unless manually reset or power is disconnected.

A quick outside of the box idea......

Get yourself a device called "ScanGauge II". It has tons of trip options.

Cost is about $170 and plugs into the ODB II emission plug under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. MPG also shows over 100mpg as well in real time tracking.

Just an idea. Just Google it and you will find it.

    Cheers

In the 04s, alas, both reset when you refill. With mine, it happens between 1/2 mile and 1 mile after you drive off from refilling.

As it happens, my CAN View is built, and will be arriving shortly. I'll mess with it some and see if it allows me a work around. Thanks for the suggestion. B)

No one has mentioned this, so I thought I would add my two cents.

I actually wish that my '06 WOULD reset both automatically ... I use the tank's av mpg and trip meter to estimate how much gas I have left in my tank (as the gas gauge aka "guess gauge" seems to function on a logarithmic rather than linear scale). A full tank is at least 10 gal, so if I get 48 mpg average on the tank, I don't sweat it when the last pip starts flashing at me at 420 miles when I'm late for work and can't stop for gas ...

On second thought, it would be great to have both a tank-to-tank AND a lifetime mpg readout. :D

Then you should of gotten the Lexus 400h. I'd LOVE to have it reset e/ tankfull ... but NOOOOO. It just keeps going & going & going ... 'till restet is hit. wana trade your '04 for our '06 400h Lexus? Doubt the spouse will go for it.

You just tell me where and when to meet you, and I'll be there for the swap, title in hand! ;) You can even have the CAN View that I just installed (besides, I don't think it will work in the 400h).

Seriously though, I think the way your car works is better. Sure, it can be a pain to have to remember to push the button, but really, it's just a button push. And you have the choice of when to do it, I don't. If I'm on a long, multi-tank trip (for example, I just did New Orleans to Charlotte and back last week), I can't automatically keep a running on-screen average. You can -- or you can reset it every two minutes if you want.

Actually, I think I found how to solve the problem, at least for me in my 04 Prius. Just last night, I installed my V3 CAN View. What an amazing device. Among the many pages of data is a trip screen, including mileage, which is reset at the user's command.

    Edit:
On my 2006 the MFD miles auto-resets to 0 after a fill-up and after the car moves for maybe a tenth of a mile.

It is possible that the MFD "Used Gallons" value is either calculated through a "flow sensor" on the gas line or derived from the Fuel Injectors "Time On" value.

I tend to believe that the "fuel injector time on" is used which would explain the differences between manually calculated MPG and MFD derived values.

On my 2007 model only Miles are reset, not the MPG. I need to hit the reset button to reset both as well.
