[attachmentid=6909]Winter is almost over, (today it's flexing it's muscles here for sure...)

But couldn't help but admire that Zaino shine the other day after a wash.... It's unbeleivable the way it has stood up over the winter!

During our warm spell this past week I took a little clay-bar kit I got a Wal-mart to the Prius. While probably not Zaino quality it sure did a good job on my 3 1/2 year old baby. Smooth as a baby's butt and I was impressed at how well the clay-bar worked...I had been pretty skeptical.

Just remember, Evan, that the clay bar removes EVERYTHING, so I hope you put some kind of polish/wax on to protect the paint from UV, etc.

    Uh Bill,
By everthing, do you mean the "clearcoat"?

I probably wouldn't go to the trouble of using the clay bar. I just don't have the time.

As it is, I take it through a car wash and within a week it's filthy again anyway. Hopefully though, not once the weather clears on a longer term basis.

Is that why my blue car is white now?

Not to worry, the kit came with some wax/polish stuff and I used it.

The entire process of washing, clay barring, waxing, and rain-X ing my windows took me about 3 hours. While it certainly took time I'd say it was definately time well spent...now, I wouldn't do this monthly and it's the first time I've done it in the 3 1/2 years i've had the car (or any car for that matter), but as a once-a-year spring cleaning type of thing before waxing I think it would be worth while.

No, I didn't mean any of the finish, including the clearcoat. I meant everything ON the finish: dirt, rail dust, bio bits, old wax, etc.

I found that after I Zaino'd my 2005, it tended to stay cleaner. The surface of the finsh was sealed so it was harder for dirt to stick. Yes, it is a long, tedius, bother to do the job the first time, but it may the only time you have to get all the way down to the bare finish if you take care of it. A thorough washing and re-polishing a couple of times a year keeps it a "new car" look.

Evan does it once a year, I do it spring and fall, when the weather gets good and again before the weather gets bad. In the summer, with dry dust, using a California Duster (I have no idea why they are called that) and a quick detail spray makes the car look like you worked for hours on it.

since it was new last year, I did not claybar- guess I'll have to do it this spring-
BTW- the dawn does a great job removing diesel particles.....
it's weird because when I go thru the touchless wash- I don't get the beading, but if it rains, I do-
must have something to do with the "polish" they put in the rinse.
Last week I did have a chance to hand wash and it did bead- then we had the sleet storm friday- and it beaded again when the bits were melting after my sweep-
just hoping I didn't scratch the back roof when I was trying to find the rear hatch window....

Thanks. It might be worth using the Zaino this summer when I have more time. As it is, I'm sure some of the dirt on the car is layered on the polish laid down by the automatic car wash. I know they don't get everything off before it gets to the liquid wax stage.

Me too. The smooth lines DO NOT HELP when you have to find the glass. At least the bottom portion of the rear window stays clear. :)

Yippee! It was warm enough today I got a chance to clay bar and put two coats of Zaino polish on my car. If the weather holds up, I may put on a few more coats tomorrow. I'll try to take a pic too.

I've used Zaino for a long time and recently got some of the new Z-CS, if you use Zaino, get it now. It works, they claim that Zaino lasts longer with Z-CS but the shine is much better with the Z-CS than without and it is so much easier to use than the other Z stuff, just apply it once and let dry, no buffing.

I love Zaino too. Use it on all my cars, because it lasts a long time. I clay my cars even if its new. Uber smoother. I tried the new Z-CS spray and its incredible! Wow! Its hard to use though as I got streaks, but buffed it out with Z-8. Highly recommend. Hard work but lasts a long time.

If you go to the zaino site, they have 2 new products Z-CS and Z-AIO. I have their whole product line and recently did the whole thing started with Z-AIO to Z-2, Z-5, Z-CS etc.

I just did my wife's car just with Z-AIO topped off with just Z-CS, honestly, I will stop buying Z-2 and Z-5 once I run out of it. Z-AIO and Z-CS as a topper looks just a good with way less work, putting on the extra 3 layers of Z-2 or Z-5 is not worth it to me after seeing how the Z-AIO and Z-CS combo works. Besides that you save more money by not having to buy Z-FX.

So if you want to easy zaino shine just get the Z-18 clay bar, Z-AIO, Z-CS and top off with some Z-8 12 hours later.

You didn't read the instructions for the Z-CS carefully.

Z-CS will cause streaks and make your car have a rainbow smear, that's normal. You should not buff it off but let it sit for about 12 hours to let dry. Then you should use Z-8 to make it shine even more.

If you buffed it out with Z-8 right afterwards, you might of taken it off or didn't get a full application, maybe redo the Z-CS after a Z-7 wash and this time don't buff it out. :)

I'm a newbie when it comes to washing/detailing my own car. Last fall I did the Dawn wash, claybar, Zaino wash & polish one weekend and followed up with another wash and polish a week or two later. I used Z-5 and Z-6 on my beautiful black Prius. My car has been washed several times since by others with non-Zaino products. I was very pleased with the results from the Zaino and water still beads up nicely. I want to take a nice weekend this spring and work on my car with the Zaino products again. Would the resident experts here recommend starting with the Dawn wash and claybar again or just going straight to the Zaino wash and polish? Also, should I substitute any of the new products for what I used the last time? Thanks for any help.

The best way is to test. Wash your car with the regluar Zaino car wash. Take a thin plastic sandwich bag and put your hand in it. On the wet surface of your car (add water if necessary) slide your hand in the bag gently over the surface. If it feels rough and catches, you need to use the clay bar again. If water is still beading, there's a good likelihood you won't need to clay bar, but the bag test will tell you. Zaino says all their products work together. If you have polishes from last year, use them. The Z-CS looks very attractive for it's ease of use, but you can get it when the polish you have runs out, unless you want to get it now.

I still have half a bottle of Z-2 and Z-5 and some ZFX to use up, but I have two Prius now to make glow. Can't wait for warm weather to really get here...

    Hah Hah!

Move to Texas. It's already warm.

    Extra bonus:
Hail has been known to remove dirt too.
It cleaned my last car off pretty good!

    Double extra bonus:
You can meet up with the other 8 people here who have Prii.

Thanks Bill, I will try that. Since my son used up my wash concentrate & I have to order that anyway (and hide it when I'm through) I will go ahead and order the Z-CS to have once I use up the Z-5 I have left. We have definitely warmed up here, but looks like cooler weather for the weekend when I would have time. Guess I'll get my order placed so I'll be ready for the next nice weekend. Thanks again.
