Even on the default settings you can still walk over to the other drivers door to let your wife in.... you will be within 3 feet of her door if the fob is in your pocket.

To reprogram...the dealer doesn't do it, you do it yourself.. just follow the directions in the manual. If it doesn't work go back are reread the instructions... if it still doesn't go to the dealer.

I'm not going to try and insult your intelligence by assuming you can't read... but if your like me, I overlook things the first time.

I have tried this but nothing happens. I am pressing the lock button and the panic button on the remote. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    David

Hi David, welcome to PriusChat from a fellow Portlander (at least the area). You are probably not holding the buttons long enough. Try again and hold them until something happens, maybe a minute.

Check out my signature and meet other local HSD owners.

Wellllll...if you press buttons on the fob, then you are correct. If you have a Smart Key, then you don't need to handle the fob at all--just program it to open whichever doors you want when you touch the inside of the door handle.

    David,
I know what you are talking about!! In short, I feel your pain. Every time I hold both buttons down I get the panic buzzer going off before the 5 seconds is up. I know it says all those things in the manual with even a reminder that if the panic buzzer goes off, to hold the buttons firmly, etc... So, I am wondering if there are modest changes between locking systems and the date a car is made. I also cannot get the AUTO LOCK mod from Coastal Electronics to work. Hmmm, maybe there's something NOT in the blessed Manual that's going on here. Any thoughts??...

Still havent totally digested the manual yet, though I've noticed that leaving the car turned on, and exiting the car and closing the door, it beeps at me, as if its yelling at me, like "hey stupid, you left me on!". Is that normal behavior?

I programmed mine to open all the doors when I put my hand on the handle.....when doing the family thing, that seems to work best so everyone doesn't have to wait on me before they can get in.

Has anyone figured out how to get it to allow you to lock the doors "before" everyone is out of the car?....I hate waiting on the last unprepared person to fumble around and finally get out of the car before I can lock the car and start walking away.

I know I can use the fob, but thats a hassle and you have to use it again when you return once you activate it.
