Today this morning at about 8:40 something my mom was driving me to school. We parked and my mom was wating to pull up to a closer spot. The car in front of us left, my mom moved the Prius foward, the other car was trying to make a u-turn, but couldn't make it. At the time the Prius was pulled up into the more foward spot and parked. So the other car started backing up and then heard a crumpling sound along with a swaying of the Prius  . The other car's driver didn't seem to notice that she crumpled the bumper (and maybe more) of the Prius until after she went back into drive. I think the impact was about at 4 miles per hour. The airbags didn't explode and my mom and I were safe. After the other car's driver was walking over my mom made leave and I left taking a quick glance at the Prius. It looked as if the back bumper was an inch away from the rest of the car. The car is now at Accurate Auto Body (the same shop that the Prius went to another day my mom crashed the Prius, but that is another story). I will get to go see the Prius on Monday and I hope to upload some pictures by late Monday. Also what is the back quarter panel and rear bumper made of? What is behind it? Any ideas of what might have happened to the car? Any opnions? Well thanks for reading and thanks ahead for any of your comments!

    oye.

The bumper is plastic, the rear quarter panel is ultra high-tensile steel.

I'm not sure what's behind other than the battery vent on the right side and the fuel filler pipe on the left side.

    Hi everybody

Sorry for posting later than I was planning on. Now I have pictures of the damage and the current pictures from Monday. Is there a way to change the thread's title from "Another Crash" to "Another Crash w/pics" so people can easily know there are now pictures? Well anyways for the pictures.

If you would like some different pictures (like of a more spicific dent or scratch) I have a few more. Again feel free to post with comments, questions, ideas and maybe some problems that might happen after they fix the car.

P.S. Last time the Prius crashed the mileage (MPG) went down to like 35 MPG and then it slowly came back up to now 42. Why did this happen? Also the Toyota Matrix's change holder might fit in the spot where the IPA or EV button would fit in other versions of the Prius. Just a thought of a possible change holder.

Anytime they do body work on the Prius they disconnect the batteries (if they know what they're doing).

This takes all the computers back to ground zero, and they have to 'learn' to drive all over again.

Nowadays even the Auto Transmisisons 'learn' their drivers, and people go nuts after service when the tranny goes back to it's defaults. They think someone broke their transmission :)

This is why I like a manual gearbox but some how I think that the prius probably does a better job as far as mpg. Maybe even getting the best performance too, when needed. Then again the prius is not normal when it comes to transmissions and I think it is better.

My mom called Accurate Auto Body. They said the Prius might be finished on Tuesday.

So why do people on the first tank get somewhat good mileage? I don't remember the first tank, but I guess it was about 47.

And also I know it is off topic and I mentioned it before, but do you about the Matrix's change holder (the one to the left and a little down of the steering wheel) would fit in the IPA button's spot since My Prius is a Prius withuot E.V. and I.P.A. (I live in the United States)? Has anyone tried that? Also stiill feel free to comment and ask questions. Thanks.

One picture seems to show that the rear wheel was hit? Is the body shop doing an alignment? Id' ask them to do so. If the toe in is off it can't be adjusted and the axle may need to be replaced. Thats not something your Mom will want to find out tne next time she gets new tires.

Yes, they will align the wheels. Any other ideas? Comments?

A lot depends upon driving style, route, climate, and such. The MFD indicated I average 48.4 on my first tank and 51.5 on the second. Of course, I've always been a feather foot driver by nature -- easy acceleration when possible, cruise around the speed limit, give a lil' going up the hill and get it back on the other side, coast when approaching stops, light braking, etc., etc.

And to think I used to drive a sub-compact Paseo that averaged 32 MPG...

The other person's insurance (AAA) is paying for it. Some time before (I can't remember) they thought it would cost $1300 to fix, probably more now that they have looked at the car more carefully and acctually started fixing it (well at least I think they have). I'm not sure about now, though. I'm not sure how much it would hurt the resale value because, it is the family car (spicifically bought for my mom) and I don't know if she would sell it so it wouldn't really matter would it? And also it got hurt earlier too, but to get to your question I really don't know how it would affect the resale value. Any other comments, questions?

Hi again, I went to Accurate Auto Body and they have the Prius just about totally disassembled. The door behind the driver door was almost totally taken apart. And they have the new bumper almost ready for installation. Sorry, I do not have pictures this time. Tomorrow - Thursday I am going camping (my school has a 1 week break). I was planning on taking the Prius, but they delayed the estimate of how long it will take again. Now thay estimate it will be available on Friday. Well let's hope the Prius gets finished soon. I really miss the car and wish I could have it back. Dont forget: drive safely.

P.S. If I do make a thread about my camping trip would Fred's House of Pancakes be a good place to post it in? Bye for now!

Earlier today I was at Accurate Auto Body. Today I got the Prius back! Yay :) :D ! My mom drove it back (my dad was at a doctor's appointment and I was in the front passenger seat). She was averaging about 35 mpg. That isn't so good. I hope it jumps to around 45 (at least). I haven't looked at the Prius that carefully yet, but it looks fine from a quick overview. When the wheel cover got damaged thay asked me if I wanted it and we decided that I would keep it. Maybe I can make it into a clock or something. Any ideas on what to do with the wheel cover? I am refering to the plastic ring that goes around the spokes of the wheel. Any last ideas or comments? Thanks for commenting and reading!
