A few months ago I was rear ended. The back bumper had to be replaced. They must have also reset the battery, because all my stored addresses were deleted. Since then, I've been having problems with the GPS. Sometimes, it works just fine. Other times, it tells me there's no such number on that street, or no such street in that city. I know that there is. I made sure that it's still set to California (it is). I double check that I have the correct address (I do). But it insists that it doesn't exist. I called my local Toyota service center, but they said that as long as it finds "some" addresses, they consider that it's working and can't do anything about it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I paid a lot of money for the GPS (it's the one that came with the 2005 package 6) and I rely on it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Assume the addresses are from streets that have been around for a long time. I've had some trouble with streets running between cities or with E, N, etc. in the address. Longer streets are segmented and if you don't get it just right, then it doesn't find the street number on the specific segment you name. If you give some examples of streets it can't find, others might be able to check to see if it's a database issue or maybe something unique to your vehicle. By the way, what version DVD to you have?

Don't put in too much information. When you are inputting a complete address, start with the state, then city, then street. That will automatically narrow the search. When a street has E, W, N, or something of that nature, leave it out on the initial input, as well as Drive or Ave. The system will give you the option of picking the correct street from the narrowed list.

I don't know what version DVD I have. How can I find out? I bought the car in Dec 2004, so it's whatever was in the car then. One address I had trouble with was 5701 Star Lane in Woodland Hills. It wouldn't give "Lane" as a possibility with "Star". Even though it did fine with that address before the battery (or whatever) was reset.

You're a genius! Thank you!!! When I tried it by starting with the city and working back to the street and then finally the number, it worked! I tried it on another address I had trouble with. First I tried the number, then street, then city. It informed me that there was no such number on that street. Then I did it backwards (city, street, number) and it worked just fine. That's a very bizarre glitch, but now that I know how to work around it, no problem :D

    Thanks again!

Press menu and there should be a DVD button that will show you the version you have. Actually, there was a free upgrade that was available for some 04 models. It upgraded from 3.x to 4.x (can't remember the specific decimals) and changed the primary data supplier. If you don't have it, I doubt you can get it free now, but you can pay for an upgrade. The free upgrade offer expired sometime in 2005.
FYI: Entering Star Lane on my ver 6.1 produces the same result. However, entering Star Ln brings up seveal N S options, presumably in different cities. If you input the city as qbee42 suggests, then there is only one Star Ln suggested and street number works.

I think they just told us our 2007 Prius has a 2005 CD in it. My 2003 Avalon came new with a 1999 set of maps. I was frosted. Since we are on out 8th Yota, they gave me a free 2007 cd for my Avalon, but told me the CD in my Prius was the newest available.

Go to some of the GPS forums, I have heard several say they cannot understand why Toyota uses this old system when newer and better are out. I personally don't know enough about their systems to argue with my grand son, but I DO know Garmin and others told me they update their charts all the time. Many of our doctors are located on new streets, so I told the dealership to keep their Prius. That is when they gave me a free CD for our Avalon. Now the wife can find the doctor's offices with it I guess.
I navigated around the world in an old KC-135, using mostly celestial over water, believe me, these GPS units are a gift from God. During Vietnam, when we crossed the ADIZ inbound, they allowed us 50 NM either side of centerline before they would call "Unknown Rider" on us. Be nice to the WAAS-GPS.
