cup holders... or trouble therewith

We haven't had any trouble with em. One is slightly larger than the other and they've so far accomodated our coffee mugs/water bottles without incident. Though if you've got something with a really big base I could see that not fitting.

One of my few minor complaints with the car is the cup holders. I agree they don't hold most cups securely. It seems that in this age of common-place OEM cup holders, most of a consistent size (smaller than Prius'), that cup manufacturers and retailers (like fast food chains) have made their cups thinner and, for the larger sizes, taller -- and top heavy. I haven't spilled one yet, but I'm afraid I will during a sudden stop.

For my coffee, I've been on the lookout for months, with no success, for a travel mug with a wider base that fits more snugly and is less likely to tip over. Let me know if you find anything, please.

 

You're probably used to cupholders with a little spring-finger that
pushes against the cup [whatever size it is] to help stabilize it.
Try taping a little piece of foam up against one side, maybe?

Jim,
Be careful if you have to use the more forward cupholder on the center console. It's too shallow to hold anything with liquids securely; it's become my cell phone holder. The back cupholder holds just about anything I have. Hint - I've cut pieces of black felt to the shape of the bottom of both cupholders. It's really helped to keep stuff and cups from moving around and reduce vibration noise.

Now what about those bottle holders in the front door panels; have you tried using them yet?

 

They work fine for me, except with coffee mugs where the handles keep the mugs from going all the way into the holders. Our other car has front cup holders that only work with coffee mugs; everything else tips out. Figures, doesn't it. <_<

My fiancee's previous car had some variant of those spring-fingers, so that's partially it. My previous car simply had smaller cup holders that most fast food cups and my travel mug fit into rather snugly.

I might try the foam thing. Thanks for the tip. And thanks for taking time during your busy travel itinerary to respond to a rather trivial issue!

 

My drink of choice is a 24 oz bottle of diet pepsi. It sits securely in either of the two front cup holders in the center console or in either of the two rear cup holders. The only place it will not fit is in the cut out areas in the front doors.

I have not had a spill, not even a near spill with a quick stop.

The 7-11 stainless and black rubber travel mug fits in the lower cupholder ... sort of. If you position the handle so it protrudes over toward the glovebox, its pretty secure and you can reach it.

The interesting thing is that the rear cupholders fit these mugs better.

I use the Melita coffee mugs from my machine they work great. Always use the closer one to me as a cup holder the front is my cell phone holder of the two. The lack of security for fast food cups has inspired me to stay away...lost 10 pounds!! thanks to my Prius lol
