PM me with your address and contact info and I'll cook up an RMA for you in the morning.

Sorry I missed the 2nd part. I don't remember a redesign on the cables in the near-past, I think the last thing they changed was back in late 2005 or early 2006 with a different plug to handle an 06+ toyota radio.

Ok just sent you a PM. Also, please answer my question... do you think it has anything to do with the cables, since they were re-designed?

No, I was not aware of any redesigns in the past year or so.

If it was that, there would be people with 04's, 05's, and 06's with the same issue cropping up over the past year as well.

Well the 2 cables used to connect together. Now you only need to use one cable and can ignore the other.

WRONG! At least, IMHO and in my experience of purchasing and installing both units now. The VAIS pwns the DICE unit in my experience. If I were to describe the two, I would say the DICE unit is nothing but a cheap "knockoff" compared to the VAIS unit. There is absolutely no comparsion to me, the VAIS unit plays with rich full sound, even when I play audiobooks. I don't notice ANY of the problems that I did with the DICE unit as previously described in my OP. Granted, the VAIS unit is just slightly bulkier and I have to store it in my glovebox, but that is fine with me for this sound, I'm perfectly content.

AND, i completely disagree with your observations of what you can see using the VAIS unit as far as artist, album and song. I can see all this with the VAIS. Perhaps you have an older unit, i don't know. I can see more information on screen with my VAIS unit then I ever could with my DICE unit. Did you do the programming correctly? At first I could not see or hear anything, but after I did the programming of the switches, all files and folders could be seen.

To my knowledge, my VAIS unit has the latest firmware. Let me clarify on my issues with the VAIS. I think BOTH of the units sound great (if your DICE unit sounded bad, I would suspect you had a faulty unit). My problem with the VAIS is how it functioned.

For example, while driving, you ARE limited as to what you can see because much of the information is grayed out once you drive faster than 5 mph. (Not VAIS's fault, but DICE gets around this by not using the mp3 emulation and putting all of the information in fields that remain visible while driving).

I also would also frequently have problems with large playlists if tried to "look down the list" beyond the first few pages, the screen would just freeze up. Tech support said this was an issue with the Toyota head unit and that there was little they could do with this issue.

I also found that the VAIS version of random wasn't really random at all. Granted the DICE unit offers NO random, but you can still control that via the ipod with the DICE unit. With the VAIS unit, the ipod is completely locked up and you have no options with accessing anything via the ipod.

The bottom line for me is the DICE unit is less expensive and offers more flexibility in terms of control. There's really no reason for any sort of sound difference between the units unless you have a faulty unit. Although, if DICE has their act together there should be very FEW faulty units leaving the "factory"... I get the impression that they're not doing so well in THAT department, however.

Edit - I'm hoping I can get the unit back from where he bought it from so I can test it out.
