We are expecting our first child in July and we are looking to use the Evenflo Triumph Deluxe Convertible Car Seat. The seat gets good reviews from Consumer Reports.

Does anyone use this seat in a Prius? If so is there a better position side or center that works better for mounting it?

    Hi Randy,

We have a little tot, and use a Graco convertible. The sizes are pretty comparable, and there is plenty of room in the Prius. I prefer setting it in the middle for two reasons. One is safety (furthest from impact on accident). The second is that with the seat in rear-facing infant mode, you will probably have to slide the front passenger seat forward some in order to fit it on the side, but in the middle it's not a problem.

The Prius has the LATCH system, which is really much easier to use than seatbelts. In my wife's Mazda, we have to use the seat belts, and getting it tight is almost impossible. With the LATCH, it's a piece of cake.

    Good luck!

We have the exact carseat asked about by the OP, and yes, it does work. (And we like it as does our son.) We have it mounted behind the right front seat. When we test drove the Prius (a 2005) we had this seat backward facing and put it in with no problem, although I was not paying all that much attention to the position of the front seat. I am fairly tall and if that seat hadn't been all the way back I probably would have complained though, so I suspect it was all the way back and everything fit just fine.

When we got our Prius, we had converted it to forward facing. The front seat is all the way back and even a bit reclined, and my son still can't kick the seat (now on the verge of outgrowing that seat in favor of a booster). The same leg room that benefits your rear seat passengers will give your front right passenger a ride free of being kicked from behind.

The only caveat is that the back seat can be a bit squished (horizontally) if you try to fit in two people plus the carseat... depending on the width of the rear passengers this may or may not be noticeable or be a problem.

I appreciate the responses that have been posted, as usual when you have a question about the Prius you can almost always get the answer from Priuschat.com. LOL

Placing my order tomorrow for the seat!
