1 mile and go by car? That's about the distance I walk to the train station here, about 20 minutes. Why not walk, or use a bicycle?

Things that dictate engine design: Cost ,weight, space, torque and cost. Forget 20:1 compression, I'm here to tell you absolutly that won't work. I built and raced Prostock style race engines for dragbikes that I rode. 20:1 leads to big bangs for alot of reasons and the same results can be had by changes elsewhere. Also fuel and ignition timing becomes an issue. They'll poke out the cylinders and drop bigger cans in the holes to get the cc's I bet. Turbo's are nice, volumetric efficiency but cost comes back to the table. Turbo's can get better fuel economy. Offset the crank.....I'm not familiar with this one on an inline,you can offset the rods at the wrist pin though. Take a hard look at Jap motors deep inside and you'll see they've been looking at our race engines and they're adapting this technology to street buggies. Don't fret, they'll figure it out better than we ever thought of, maybe not 0-180 mph in 7 seconds but 65 mpg would give a similar thrill. My daughter must be right, I'm getting old! And don't forget cost.....

Hi Donee,
The Corolla is already at 1.8L. It has a new 1.8L for 2008, however, which adds a few HP.

Since you have already reponded to my Q on Turbos, maybe you could make a stab at the second part of my question, located in "2009 Prius" category. Search for me, fan-atic. Thanks
