I'm just curious if anyone else has raced their Prius and what kind of times they got. I know it's not built for racing but neither is my 4x4. lol

There is an older post about this but it's nearly a year old and we have a lot of new members.

This is one thing I would like to do this year just for the fun of it. I all ready had my Prius up to 102mph on the highway. :) No one was around of course. I will post times and other stats if I do ever get around to racing.

102mph huh? Can you imagine the look on the judges face if you got a ticket and tried to fight it? You'd probably win by showing all the Edmonds type reports that talk about how long it takes to get to 60mph in one of these cars and that getting to 102mpg would require geologic timescales. Ha! Little do they know the truth. ;)

Remember to post up if you end up running it and try to get a raceweight if you can.

According to them you will run out of salt flats before you break 100.

You know what would be funny. is the judge looks over at you and says I own a prius too. Hahaha

Yeah but more than likely you could make the judge believe the cop was wrong and there is no way you could go that fast because the prius cant go over 90 or something like that.

I just mapped out the distance it took for me to get to 100+mph and it looks like it took somewhere between 1/2 to 1 mile with the pedal to the floor. This was getting on the on ramp, looking for cars, looking for cops, then flooring it. I also had a passanger and a full trunk of bowling balls. 7 balls all 16lb.

I would really like to see how well the car preforms on the 1/4 mile track. I wish there was a longer track around here I could play on. Something like a mile or two so I could flat out floor it until the Prius says no more. :)

It shouldn't require too much room. I'm seeing Prii with 1/4mile MPH numbers in the high 70s to 80mph. The extra 20mph shouldn't require much more or at least short of the 1/2mile mark. :)

Well from what I've seen on my 4 open road runs is that 0-60 is in the normal 10sec range. 60-95mph is still quick but I dont have any rough numbers for that. 95-100 is slow, about 1mph per sec if I remember correctly. Then anything over 100mph is very slow. I think it took me a good 5 sec to get from 101mph to 102mph. Or at least it seem like it. I say 100mph is easily doable in 1/2 mile in the prius. This is why I want to go to a track to see what the numbers really are.

I also want to try some acceleration techniques. I've tried one where I hold the brake and give it %75 throttle then release the brake and quickly but not too quick go from %75 to %100 throttle. I find this give the more of a feeling of pushing you back in the seat than a full %100 throttle on release of the brake. I would like to see some numbers on the difference as the pushed back feeling is not very reliable on acceleration and speed. I also find that if I give it %100 throttle off the line the car tends to lose grip more and TC kicks in causing the car to lose power. Gotta love all the torque ;) I have yet to try these out on a full %80 SOC yet.

If I ever get some free time I intent to try some different launch techniques. The MPH is good enough for a 16sec 1/4mile time but getting off the line is very slow and kills my ET. If I figure out the best way to launch I'll let ya know. For now I'm going to try your idea. :)

Well, it looks like I've got you beat! A couple of weeks ago, I hit 103 MPH and that was going UP a hill! Generally, I agree with your assessment of the acceleration - I find it's quick from 60-ish to 97, then it takes longer to break 100. The last 3 MPH took something like 7-8 seconds. I'll have to see what I can do on flat terrain.

F8L do you lower the pressure in the tires when you race to get better grip?

Los Angeles to Vegas there is a 12 mile stretch of straight road with a mild downgrade.

Spedo reading 118 miles per hour, w2hich was sustainable. (I could even feel the engine downpower to maintain that speed) There is at least a +3 error in my speedo so it gives a realistic 115 MPH!

Didn't time it and don't know how long it would take on a completely flat road or if it is even possible on any type of incline.

Oh, yeah, cruising at 118 mph.... 34.5 MPG!!!!! (instantaneous reading)

I got my car to 107 MPH on my way from Big Bend Nat'l park to Houston during Spring Break before I backed off to 98 mph again, but she still had more in her. Most of that section I did about 95 MPH. You should have seen the faces on the drivers in the big pick up trucks, and sports cars who were doing 80-85. I smiled the whole way. About two hours later I slowed down to the speed limit of 70 MPH, and I saw my first police officer on that road. I never knew that there was a "1" for 100 on the dash before.

Nah, I have aftermarket tires so they grip well enough. In fact I would be more likely to ovr inflate them to decrease rolling resistance and get a better reaction time if I were bracket racing.

How far from Mid-Ohio sports car course are you? Never been there, but if its Mid-Ohio, it should be somewhere in the middle. Most tracks have track days, where you can pay a fee, and drive your brains out. Its a fun thing to do, and a good way to use up the Goodyears that everybody here hates so much. Go for it! No cops, no small kids, no slow SUVs in the way. I may affect your MPGs, but who cares? Let the Prius show its true self!

I'm a good distance away. I do go to Mansfield once in a while so maybe the next time I'm there I can see if I can get on the track.

118MPH at 34 MPG... pretty impressive actually! And I thought the MPG drops dramatically after 65 MPH. :)

    HAHAHA..

I thought I would be the only Norcal-LS1 user on a Prius board.

34mpg IS a dramatic drop. It all depends on your point of view. "I'm still getting 34mpg" would be a great bumper sticker at the track. :p

The Prius will do a 1/4 mile in 18.1 seconds.

    Ugg.

And I have to call shenanigans on the people going 118 mph since the car is governed at 107 mph - unless they went down steeply downhill.
