Ever since buying my Prius, I think I've been noticing just how many there are of them on the road (which is how it should be). It's rare that I have an outing without running into another one!

What feels odd, however, is that there are two or three other Prii with my year/color within a few miles of where I work and live. The other day I ended up tailgate to bumper with one of the blue Prii and coincidentally tailed the car for a few blocks. It felt bizarre: like driving behind a big mirror! I've never had that happen with the few other cars I've owned.

Anyway, has anyone run into the same phenomenon? I guess other cars really aren't as noticable so maybe my perception is off, but with as much as I spot Prii, I'm starting to think that the Prius is one of the more popular cars in my locale (south Denver, CO).

Back when I got the Subaru I spent about two weeks looking around
and going "krikey, *everybody* drives a subaru". I got over it.
These days there are times when there are three or four priuses
within sight at a time, and in general they're pretty common around
here; the difference between them and the ubiquitous subies is the
sense of smug pride. But Priuses are still a niche. Pulled into a
gas station today and the next-over guy went "wow, it's so *quiet*!"
so I said "well, sure, when there's no engine runing..." and he said
"oh really?" ... i.e. plenty of people still don't even know what a
    hybrid is.

Heh, there are 3 prii on my street. One street over there's an Insight. I think there are about 2 or 3 others somewhere in the neighborhood that I see on occasion. The more the merrier. Our other car is an Outback. CO is full of those!

I don't see many here, but then there aren't a lot of any cars. Noticing something once you become aware is very common, not just with the Prius. A previous poster mentioned Subarus. I had the same experience when my wife was pregnant the first time. Every trip out I saw lots and lots of pregnant women. I thought it was an epidemic of some kind. I don't notice many pregnant ones anymore, so the risk must of passed.

It's a natural phenomenon; it's happened to me many times, most notably when my wife and I began riding motorcycles - suddenly they were everywhere. They always were, it's just that our perception changed. Same thing with Prii, although I think you're (OP) right, I do think it's distinctive looks make it easier to notice.

When my wife first got her cane for a bad knee, we went out for dinner, and I swear, everybody in the resturant had a cane or a crutch! No kidding, I asked somebody if it was cane night, buy a dinner, get a free cane. Wierd. As a Subaru driver, I've noticed it too, and the other night I was in a 4-Pri HOV convoy, all different colors.

I've noticed a lot more women seem to be pregnant since I knocked my wife up! I guess the epidemic has moved to these parts.

    tripp,

Those Outbacks really are everywhere. The car I totalled before getting the Prius to replace it was a Legacy Brighton, which isn't quite so prevalent.

My relatives from Texas thought it was wierd that there are so many Subaru's in Colorado.

The day after I got my Prius (a 2007 super-white), I was a Fleet Farm. When I went to the parking lot, I honed in ona 2007 super-white Prius. It looked dirty. I thought, "My car can't be that dirty this soon." It was full of red dust. I was getting ready to walk around the car and noticed it had a different license number than my car. Two identical Prii in the same lot. Mine was the clean one!

I've noticed some on the road ... but not too many yet. But when I see one I know it is driven by a very happy and intelligent person.

I'm in Los Angeles, and besides seeing a lot of Prius (sometimes there are two lanes with four each at a stop light), I also see a lot of my black Prius.

I motioned my wife once to look over the next lane to see another black Prius, and her comment was:

    "Yeah. You are both crawling!"

My second day with my "gold" Prius, there were three other brand new ones without plates on El Camino at the same intersection in Palo Alto CA, all going same direction. We all had different colors. All different dealerships.

Sure, now, but when I looked for them before I bought one in 2005, I was lucky to see one a day. :)

I think it's weird there are so many SUV's in Texas. My mom lives there and I visit Austin relatively frequently.
