Oh after reading that wiki I guess it doesn’t help you. A friend told me about it and I called to get insurance because their rates are significantly lower. I thought when they asked if I was military it was because they offer a discount for that but obviously you have to be military to get insurance with them. sorry about that.

That's o.k. , you'd think the discounts for those features would be more available . Oh well . :D

I ask about discounts for VSC, Trac, extra air bags, etc. when I bought my Prius and went in to change the insurance over. The agent told me that the information was included in the VIN so I was receiving whatever discount they used for those items. I didn't bother to double check what she told me because my insurance is so inexpensive that it didn't seem worth the trouble to check on it. As I recall insurance on my Prius was between 10% and 20% less than it was on my 7 year old Honda Accord.

I receive discounts from Traveler's in NYS for "Hybrid vehicle", active anti-theft system, traction control & VSC, safe driver and supplemental side curtain and side airbags. My Traveler's premium has been less for a new Prius than for my 10 year old Bonneville which I owned prior to the Prius. Traveler's premiums may not be lower for hybrids in every state but here in NYS they were the lowest with a 10% premium reduction for it simply being a hybrid. They get my insurance $$ hands down!

    1) commute less than 10 miles one way

    2) ABS

    3)VSC

me farmers. had to mention VSC though. my insurance company for some reason does not have ability to take package numbers and convert them to the applicable features.

I traded in a 1998 Subaru Legacy for the Prius. State Farm insurance only raised the insurance something like $5, I couldn't believe it! Same insurance on a $3500 car as a $24000 one. I think there is a very low accident rate on Priii... It's not exactly a teenage hotrod car. Plus, everybody is driving conservatively and gliding to increase their mpg!

I didn't even think about this! Thanks for mentioning the possibility of a discount!

As to gliding to increase MPG, there is the downside of not looking at the road but looking at the energy display! "Yeah, she was getting 99.9 mpg -- too bad she didn't that parked Suburban."
