I became interested in the Prius several months ago, and decided to make the plunge and buy one the beginning of August 2004. I called all the dealerships in the Kansas City area and was told that orders were not being taken. I was not even able to get on a waiting list. I called Toyota corporate and was told that I might have better luck ordering a Prius from a smaller dealership. He gave me the phone numbers for several dealerships in smaller, rural, farm country type locations. I called one in rural Kansas and was able to order a 2005 model, fully loaded. They said that the wait would be about 6 months, but that they have on occasion been able to get one in for a customer in as little as 4 months. I was put at #5 on the waiting list.
I am now a month closer to getting a Prius...I can't hardly wait. I'll probably wait until the 2 month mark and call to inquire as to the status of my order. Hopefully I won't have to wait as a year or more like some of the posts here seem to suggest.

 

I called the dealership Friday and have moved from #5 on their list to #3. The sales person says that I will probably be able to take delivery in December. I can't wait.

 

I got the call today. The dealership received notice of another allocation. They don't have the color I asked for, but my Prius will all the options I requested (silver now) will be here in 2-3 weeks.

 

The prius arrived Thursday 11-4-2004, earlier than expected. It has everything I wanted and so much more. I only had to wait for about 2 1/2 months, not a bad deal.
