Does your Prius shock you?

Static electricity from your butt in the seat possibly. It's common

Yea, that'll do it. Happens a lot worse in the winter. They will get you good sometimes

 

only when I lick the battery terminals just like testing a 9 volt transistor battery

answer is NO never been shocked on an 07 prius not even sticker shock

Get some anti-static spray, like for nylons, and spray it on your car seat. Tumble dry your polar fleece with a fabric softener sheet. Wear more cotton...

 

I tap my knuckle on the window to discharge... it's like a weak knock with one finger... lol

 

So far it hasn't happened to me (only had the car two weeks, though) - but it *always* happened with my Ford Focus (fortunately, I always remembered to touch the car before blowing up the gas station with my static buildup).

 

Before moving in the car seat, open the door and keep hold of the opener. Now as you slide around and get out any build up of static electricity should discharge through your hand to the door handle. You should not feel this discharge nor should you get zapped when you close the door.

I've always been shocked from all my cars except, so far, the Prius. There's different ways to deal with it, in a "normal" car, you can hold your key to metal to equalize the potential. Since you don't use a key, not sure what to tell you. I've found it depends on both your clothes and your shoes. In the winter, I can draw an inch-long spark from a Costco shopping cart to the metal racks when humidity is low enough. OUCH!

 

Never been shocked by the Prius.

 

I get a shock almost every time I get out of my '04 Prius. The same thing happened every time I got out of my '89 Civic.

Touch the outside of the door, after you get out, with the back of your hand, rather than your fingertips. You're less sensitive there. Personally, it doesn't bother me. But that's just me. When I was in school I liked touching the Van de Graff generator. The other thing we used to do was make a chain on the generator and touch girls. Only the end person gets a shock. Once we made a chain all the way into the next classroom.

 

Yes, I get a shock too.... and it is kind of strong sometimes..... You are not alone!

 

Easy fix. Its your clothes. Use a Bounce sheet in the clothes dryer every time. I got some under the car seats and one in the dash box too. Insects don't like them and there the best anti-static on the market. If your storing a box long time put a sheet in the box and you will have no bugs years later.
If I don't use this its a bad day at work. We keep the Engineering spaces around 65 degree's and dry. I can get a pretty good spark from my finger to a rack with no Bounce on my clothes. Bounce...no problem ever.

 

My wife used to get zapped by my Tacoma almost every time due to my heavy rubber floor mats. Once got her on the butt right through her jeans!! LOL!!!

 

You should try Arizona during the driest times of year. Get out of the car...get shocked. Touch the door nob...get shocked. Walk around the house...get shocked. Get out of your chair...get shocked.

You just get used to it after awhile, since there isn't much you can do about it. That's the secret price for all the sun.
