Anyone know where I can get an english language update in New Zealand?
I have asked Toyota NZ and they dont have anything on offer?
Its a 2001 Toyota Prius Mark 2 freshly imported from Japan last month.
Mainly for the bar graph and engine flowchart.

Cheers in advance for any help you can give....

Do you mean you want to change the on screen buttons to English?

I don't think that's possible (based on all the other JDM imports PCers that we have on this forum).

Has anyone tried going into the Diagnostics Mode and seeing if there's an option for language? I know there's an option for changing the startup screen from Toyota to Lexus (although selecting Lexus doesn't actually bring up that screen =( )

I could have a go at getting into the diagnostic screen (I take it the instructions will be somewhere on this forum) but Im abit abivilient in that randomly pressing buttons has locked me out of the screens b4, my wife had to randomly press buttons to get me back out to the main screens? hehe

I would of thought there was a firmware upgrade for the onboard computer system or at least the GUI screen?

I noted in the manual I received from Toyota (that doesn't match my vehicle completely)l that there was a heading titled maintenance, something, and language selection. Very intriguing, but none of the subsequent sections contained any references to language selection. So language selection was considered enough to appear somewhere to the folks writing the manual, although it is not immediately apparent to me how to access that function (or if it is possible) because, of course, the menu displays are in Japanese.

I'll let you know if I discover how to do it, but I did have a Toyota mechanic tell me that "if we knew how to do it, all of the cars would be speaking English" (referring to all the signature class Prii Toyota are bringing into NZ from Japan).

In the meantime I'm taking a student fluent in Japanese on a car trip later today...

In terms of changing the MFD language, I've heard nothing good (i.e. replace the entire MFD; probably not an option in a 2001 model :( )
There's a Maintenance option on the display in mine; but it's not mentioned in the manual, and seems only good for entering dates for various parts (oil filter, windscreen wiper, tyres, etc). Probably intended to warn you on a given date / after the given miles that part $x needs replacing.

There's also a diagnostics menu buried in the MFD somewhere; getting to it involves pressing on the corners of the display in the right sequence at the right time - uselessly vague, I know; but I don't remember the details, and if you could get to a menu, it'd all be in japanese anyway!
http://www.wikihow.com/Override-Toyota-Pri...gation-Gray-out has some details on something similar; with the warning that touching the wrong button can break the system completely!

Thankfully the display is mostly pictorial, so 90% of everything can be done by clicking the little picture - "lessee, air blowing at face.. I think that alters the AC vents..."

Mine's shiny and green; and might be seen between Fairfield and the city centre. For added bonus points, at work I park just down the row from a lady with a Silver 2007 :D

More on topic. I was playing with the hidden menus; the Navigation one doesn't work (so no in-motion override :( ), but the standard ("press display and then hit top-left, bottom-left, top-left, bottom-left, top-left, bottom-left, be careful not to break anything you touch") one did. Funnily enough, the titlebar was green and said AU.
I did try hitting it, but it didn't change, so it's not that easy ;)

The reverse-beep disable also didn't work for me; so that might be NorAm only, or I did it wrong.

Yup, beep disabling routine only works on NAm
