I just got a call from my wife who told me she was driving behind a silver Prius and below the rear bumper was a fan. We do not have a fan on our '05 Prius and I have never seen a fan on the rear of any other Prius.

    Any idea what she saw?

    Thanks.

It was probably a hitch cover that looks like a propeller. Something like this:

Sounds like it might be a propeller-style hitch cover.

The new racing version with ground effects?

Was the driver wearing a snorkel? Maybe it was amphibious! :)

maybe she got stuck behind one of these:

I can see how she'd mistake it for a Prius. I'd have the undercarriage of your car checked for alligators at your next service visit though.

I should have known better than to post this on a Friday afternoon!

Until I get home and have a chance to show her your posts I'm going with the trailer hitch. That's only because the chances of her being around any alligators on the downhill side of the 405 between L.A.. and the San Fernando valley just do not seem all that great.

It's only about 2" diameter by about 1" deep in real life.

    Another classic Ichabod!

Seriously though my guess would be a hitch cover...

I think what the wife saw was the #1 Prius fan.

Hey, if anyone is going to hang off the rear bumper of a moving Prius, I'd say that's some pretty strong street creds for being considered the ultimate Prius aficionado.

I wonder if he was just trying to observe what happens under the car while it is moving, or maybe he was trying to prevent his SO or a carjacker from taking his car.
