HELP, HELP, HELP

    I am not understanding why a CA dealer isn't finding any warranty coverage. Can they be that unhelpful. Three main computers are all covered under the emission control warranty for 15/150, plus a whole bunch of other stuff not related to the additional hybrid system warranty. It is in the book that comes with the car. Fuel tank assembly and coolant recovery tank are also 15/150, so why would anyone pay to fix those items I have no idea. Salvage vehicles are also covered. Maybe they are just saying computer to generalize any electronic part. How many computers does this car have, anyway.

    We picked up the car today. My ToyotaCare warranty was indeed the platinum coverage, as Efusco thought (up to 100000 miles for the 2004) so we paid a $50 deductible for the total bill of $645.00.

    The part replaced was the sks transponder computer component. So far, so good, on the 30 mile drive home, except that the outside temp thermometer is now off by several degrees.

    And my husband insists that the car's gasoline engine is kicking in too soon, which may or may not be so. I'm too blind tired to see if he's making sure the AC is off before he starts the car.

    Yes, it is odd, that Toyota didn't have the warranty tied to the VIN. But we did manage to get a printout of all recall repairs done to the car over the years, which I was once told they could not provide.

    For now I'm going to take massive amounts of aspirin and try to catch a nap. Thank you all for staying the watch. If you never hear from me again, you'll know all is good.

    Sad fact of life... Very few Toyota techs are trained to handle Prius. They may not routinely check for SSC's (Special Service Campaigns) You can call the dealer and give them your VIN and they will be able to check for outstanding SSC's.

    Also when jumping a Prius, first try the underhood contact point and if t doesn't get enough power to start the car, try using just to open the back hatch (electric release) and access the 12V batt directly. Found in the right rear corner under the little plastic cover. You can get there by crawling through the cab, but it is a pain in the neck!
