    ..... in 2009 :)

I can't wait - maybe I'll start watching The Tonight Show instead of finding something else to fill my time between it & Conan when I can't sleep.

I'd been reading trade press rumors that CBS was wooing O'Brien as a successor to Letterman.

I was surprised to see Leno announce his retirement so early; I suspect NBC wanted to nail down O'Brien right now.

Well, good for Conan; he'll be great for The Tonight Show.

How much do they have to pay him to guarantee that he won't have found something else he wants to do in 5 years? And HOW would they make that contract enforcable? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

There's probably some sort of penalty clause on both sides of the contract. Something on the order of $10 mil if NBC doesn't give Conan an 11:30 show, or a huge buyout if Conan goes to another network.
