5 Star PTFE (Teflon ) paint coating

You will find diffrent opinions on this topic, but I recommend that you save your money and get a good detail job done on your car. Make sure they use a quality Wax or Sealer from someone like Meguiar's, make sure they take the time to prepare your paint by removing any scratches or swirls firs and if needed clay the car. You can find a lot of information on these this topic in Automobile Detailing Forums, most of them will just tell you that the dealer is making a lot of money on this and will make you think you are not very bright for not taking the offer. Just remember that your car is probably the second most expensive purchase that you will make and the dealers know this, they will tell you everything they have to in order to make you think the "protection" is the best. All you are buying is insurance with loop holes ... SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I know this is an old topic, forgive me, but I just wanted to mention that paint protection is a scam. There is no such product out there that will protect the paint from getting damaged with one shot. Paint maintenance is an ongoing project, one that MUST be done at regular intervals if you want the paints finish to last the life of the car. There are many different product out there, Meguirs being one of them, Turtle wax and others as well. The ultimate protection you can give the paint is a Zaino treatment(no I dont sell it I use it). It is so easy to do, no special buffers or other tools are needed, in fact, if your paint is at the point where a mechanical buffer is needed, its too late to protect it. A good washing with dawn to remove grease and wax, then a good clay bar treatment to clean the paint, it should feel like freshly cleaned glass, smooth as silk. Then any one of the treatments Zaino has, they have a new product called AIO, or all in one, that is applied as the first step and if you have a dark colored car, subsequent coats of Z5 or Z 2 depending on if there are swirl marks, will deepen the gloss, then they have a clear coat spray to top it off with and BAM your paint is sealed and protected fora a good long time, but still will need to be maintained with regular washing and topping off the finish occasionally with more Z2. All that will happen with the dealer is some low paid car hop with a buffer pad will squirt some cheap wax on the car and buff the hell out of it and you will be left cleaning up dried wax for the next year. Hopefully the youngun wont swirl the finish to bad.

 

I'm noticing little scratches on the sides of my '07 Seaside Pearl Prius - 4,400 miles, and dozens of little nicks
on the front and back quarter panels - exposing the white undercoat. Looking at the front of the car I have no paint "chips" as discussed in this thread...
I have no recollection of driving thru a sandstorm, or blasting thru brush.
I've never seen the like...and I used a Klasse "hardcoat" finsih...
