I've been thinking of painting my brake drums - either Black to match the car or a bright green. What would be the best type of paint to use (hopefully aerosol)? What kind of surface prep would I need. I know that it will have to be a heat resistant paint.

Has anybody done it before? How successful were you in the application?

it should be fine. use the heat resistant paint. they have heat resistant grey primer you could use.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't paint your brakes any weird green color.. Just keep them black or a dark grey color. It will look silly if you paint them green!!

I have done it many times, and there are a few good ways of doing it. I personally use the spray type. I just tape up everything around that shouldn't get paint on it, then give it about 5 coats, with about 10 mins to dry between coats, pretty easy to do...

I'd suggest wire brushing any rust or loose paint, then using something that kills rust -- I used to be able to find this paint called "Extend" that reacted with rust and sealed it, then a coat of high temperature flat black.
