I agree with you. I also am not sure how points are awarded. I vauely think that people get some points for every post but I am not sure. I fsomeone could please clarify.

points mean nothing, just like on 'who's line it is anyway'... we donate them around sometimes just for fun.

Why, points are everything. There is nothing without the points. It is through the accumulation and distribution of points that we truly live. And there are indeed a certain number of points. I mean really, do you you seriously think that Danny is sitting in his living room just making more points. I don't think so!

Does the total number of points in the PriusChat universe stay constant or is it always expanding? And if it's expanding, is there a limit or does it just increase forever?

Oh boy you've opened a can of worms. There are three major parties of opinion on this topic.

Those who subscribe to the Orthodox Einsteinian view believe that there is a finite number of points existing in an infinite amount of time.

However, some people noted that with the increasing number of PriusChat members, each with increasing points, there must be an increasing pool of points. These people predict constant expansion.

On the third hand are those who predict an exponential increase in members and point allocation. In this case, the PriusChat universe will increase in expansion. However, they also leave open the possibility that the vast number of points might cause the eventual collapse of the Priuschat universe.

It seems obvious to me that the existence of points proves that there must be a System Operator.

After all, if it were not for a System Operator, how could points have ever begun to exist? Surely you are not going to suggest that some random electro-chemical reaction in an ancient primordial soup of simple amino acids could have led to the creation of the first point!

We must stop these people who want to teach our children that points just evolved all on their own.

To clarify, unused points should be donated to me, naterprius. They will find a happy home with me where they will be loved and cared for as if they were my own. However, I take the most honor in receiving donated points as a gesture of thanks for an appreciated post.

Others may solicit you for your unwanted points, but rest assured I am best equipped to nurture them and help them blossom.

Nate.. I'd go for the car before the points... 336 looks like you're pretty set as it is... in fact fat dumb and happy would be fitting... more than that, maybe a call to your dealership to move you from 33 to 67 should work...

I think that anyone who really wants to understand points should refer to the definitive resource on the subject:

    The Point

Among other things it answers the eternal question "Do you have to have a point to have a point?"

By default, you get 3 points for starting a topic and 1 point for all other posts. This is configurable so Danny may have changed the allocation. The name of the points can also be changed so Danny could name the points MPG for example!

I ran a forum where the points were called goats once....

Perhaps Danny should institute a tiered tax system to better allocate points across the forum (er, to me). That way, the less fortunate members could earn points without having to post as often! :|

I would vote to change their name to "volts" or something Prius related. I was thinking volts because we charge our volts as we use the board and then we can discharge some volts by donating them to others. It's a stretch, but I'm okay with that.

Under everyone's name (except your own) is the word 'donate'. When you click that link, you can donate some or all of your points to that person. In fact, LJ, I think I gave you some of my points.
