I think my score is highest so far- perhaps I should start packing!

Before the 2004 election, I said (in jest; sort of!) that if Bush won, we were moving to Canada. So my kids told their friends at school that we were moving, and a rumor got started in our town. A realtor friend of mine actually called me to ask if she could get the listing for our house!

I got 36. HA. I speak fluent Spanish, but zero French. All my working career was non-skilled jobs, and when I came into enough money to live on, I began doing exclusively volunteer jobs, at first unskilled, and then as a translator. I never finished college (I am mostly self-educated) and at 58 they consider me too old.

But I guarantee that with my savings, they'd happily admit me as a retiree. Just not as a "skilled worker," which is fine with me, because I'm through working for money.

Burritos: I've been to Milford Sound. And three days of hiking on the Hollyford trail, in Fiordland. Beautiful country! Maybe the second most beautiful place I've ever been, after British Columbia.

John: I'm sure they have criteria for retirees as well, but there might not be a test, because the criteria are probably a lot simpler: Your income and your character, which they'd judge in a personal interview.

I considered Canada, but for now Spokane works better for me. The part of B.C. I'd want to live in has no really reliable air transportation. Maybe when I get tired of travel I'll consider Canada again.

Hmm.. I got a 67... no job, no spouse/significant other, no family, no french whatsoever, But I am a teacher...

 

70 despite my advancing age and complete lack of French (some would rate that as an advantage ). No job offer in Canada has to hurt too.

I haven't asked my parents if I have family in Canada.

I would certainly look at arranging a job before I applied so that would get me points for adaptability.

I have two masters degrees and qualify under three job classifications. I'll bet I could get someone to hire me.

And I scored nothing for spouse/partner so I suppose I could always look for a like minded male immigrant also looking to score some points and get.....*gulp*......married.

You mean there's a spelling test too?

 

Last time I checked physicians were a specific exclusion group, so if your high scores are related to medical school, forget about it.

Modern Medicine and Canada do not usually find themselves in the same sentance.

 

67. Barely got in. Fortunately, I have health insurance and am past draft age, so I don't need to try to get in.

 

Not to cause an argument, but if the US would re-institute the military draft, would Canada lower the score for draft dodgers?

 

i only got a 51 and about half of that is education points :lol:

if i had arranged employment and was, you know, out of school... i'd probably make it. intriguing thought.

ps, in wisconsin the proper pronunciation of "north" is indeed "nort"... just ask anyone where they're going for the weekend and they'll tell you they're going up nort.
