"You're welcome, but it's not my "opinion.""

It is your opinion. Others have different opinions. You're not infallible, unless you're the Pope. I suggest you read a book by one of the "wacky conspiracy theorists" David Ray Griffin:

Debunking 9/11 debunking : an answer to Popular mechanics and other defenders of the official conspiracy theory

As an open-minded person, I'm sure you would be interested in reading this.

By the way, the wackiest conspiracy theory of all is the official version of events.

along the lines of the dems wanting our intelligence services to spend time and money on gw - insane.

i like to see my first responders in good shape - but it should be their responsibility to take care of that.

cutting nyc funding by 40% is NUTS - i think Gotham remains the #1 target for lots of reasons with Wash DC #2.

but imho the best defense is a very good offense.

consider their culture - weakness is perceived by them as further opportunities for action. There will always be some degree of terror for the near future. Like Israel which has learned to live with it we will too - Israel has managed to keep it to a minimum in terms of loss of life and at the same time grow a robust economy and society - we will too. There will be however a time limit as to allowing the terror to continue and there will always be a change in the level allowed.

    I dont consider myself a hawk -

Taking out Iran will not involve any boots on the ground at all. I would try to destabalize it first - but i would not allow it to go nuclear. Syria too can be "moved" without boots on the ground. So in both cases no troops involved. I would also in agreement with almost everyone else today expand American Military and National Guard forces by at least 150,000 men if not more.

World oil supply - i would start drilling anwr, off the coasts, etc and encourage better extraction technologies to current world wide fields. Pipelines would be built to short-curcuit middle east supply routes. Get alternate sources of oil production and technologies up and running.... Also - start an Apollo size project to build dozens of nuclear power plants in the US... tax incentives for green technologies in cars and buildings.....

solving the worlds problems aint easy - but doing nothing is worse. our enemies have declared their intentions time and time again - if we do not listen we only increase the chances of harm coming our way.

How do you mount an offensive against an enemy that has independent cells operating in every country (including your own) in world? What sort of military offensive could possibly have any effect on the terror organizations?

We won't win the "war on terror" with soldiers and tanks and planes. We'll win it with good intelligence, good defense, and special ops.

It's not that easy, Berman... First, the refineries are the bottlenecks - they can only process so much at one time. how do you convince the heads of these multinational corporations to invest in a multi billion, decade long project to build a new refinery when gas prices are so volatile, and the worlds supply of oil so uncertain?

Have you had a chance to visit ANWR? It's an amazing, beautiful place, and you want to go and give it to the oil tycoons. If you start drilling there, there will be an accident at some point. the entire area will become polluted. There's no reason to start drilling there when alternative fuel technologies are so promising and right around the corner. Invest in those instead.

Define "better extraction technologies". Currently they have plenty of ways to extract oil from a number of different sources besides the big oil fields. It's just too expensive. Oil companies have been looking at the problem for a long time - you think you can just come up with a magical solution when they can't?

That said, i agree with the end of your post... we need more clean energy generated, and we need to promote green technologies. It's the only way to survive long term.

And that, quite simply I believe, is the problem. Too many define their opinion as the "truth", and in doing so, close their mind to any other possibilities. It's black, not white; you're wrong, I'm right. We all tend to focus on the "facts' that best fit our current paradigms and delegate those not fitting to the liberal/conservative/Rep/Dem/evolutionist/creationist spin machine - this is basic to human nature - but if you're not completely accounting for all the variables in any given situation, then you are professing an opinion or belief, not a fact. Sans the application of the scientific theory, it is an opinion/belief.

At least that's my opinion of my belief... :)

Attacking an Army base is the opposite of attacking a college. Nobody is allowed to carry a weapon on college campuses, therefore students are an easy target. Everyone carrys a weapon on an Army base, so the chances of damage are pretty slim.

Also, didn't anyone see this as an "inside job"? The Bush administration is desperate to justify their war in Iraq, so they want to instill as much fear in the American public as they can. This was clearly a goof, they were supposed to be able to get in and kill people. They'll try again for sure.

Except for training on the range and the MP's, AP's etc. nobody carries loaded weapons on base.

Don't try to convince them that all military personal on bases don't carry weapons.
They have all the proof they need that you are wrong.
They have seen their proof in Hollywood movies.

The government's own USGS estimates that the oil that could be extracted from ANWR only represents about a six month U.S. supply. And it would take a decade before that oil would make it to market. Destroying this wilderness area would have a negligible impact on our oil supply, but it would make a few people very wealthy.

    B.S.

The problem isn't in accounting for "all the variables in any given situation" - but the belief there is a need to account for all variables . . . no matter how idiotic a variable may be.

Some conspiracy theorists claim no airplanes crashed into the WTC. So should a theory by a few crackpot conspiracy theorists hold the same weight as proof of reality as that of hundreds of thousands of eye witnesses who say they personally witnessed aircraft crash into the WTC?

If so, do we then have to account for the variable that these hundreds of thousands of eye witnesses were actually a victim of a joint military training exercise wherein the US Air Force beamed psycho-suggestive brain wave altering signals from stealth satellites while the US Navy's new top secret weather bending weapon sucked two blue whales out of the ocean and flung them into the WTC? I say it is true, therefor, according to your contention, you must now disprove my theory in order to completely account for all variables.

True, none of us know the whole truth, but some of us are better at giving more than warranted credence to far flung theory.

First of all, I don't think the proper way to respond to a point is "B.S." This should be banned! Where are the moderators? (kidding)

You are highly selective in your eyewitness accounts. True, some "crackpots" say there were no planes. But there were many highly trained firefighters, police and others who swear that they heard massive explosions in the basement of the WTC that have nothing to do with the planes hitting. May I suggest that only a "crackpot" could believe that a huge building like WTC7 could suddenly collapse at free fall speed into its own footprint without it being caused by a controlled demolition? How many books and articles have you read about this? I have read dozens of books, hundreds of articles. Far from being "crackpots", many who seek truth about 9/11 are highly educated and respected and affiliated with major universities. People like David Ray Griffin. I don't expect to change your opinion, just to remind you that your "opinion" is, like everyone's, based on the evidence you happen to like. Your opinion is no more authoritative than mine. By the way, do I sound like a crackpot? Neither does David Griffin.

    Suggested reading:

-Debunking 9/11 debunking : an answer to Popular mechanics and other defenders of the official conspiracy theory
    Griffin, David Ray, 1939-

-The 9/11 Commission report : omissions and distortions

I too have seen whales fly. So it must be true!!!!

I saw a whale fly at Seaworld in San Diego and another in a documentary on people from the future coming back in time to take a whale back to the future in order to tell a whale speaking deathstar satellite that all was well on the Earth, and that it needed to abandon its mission.

Isn't there a large Navy presence in the San Diego area. And why don't they let the general public behind the scenes at Seaworld? What are they hiding? Is Seaworld really a front for a top secret Navy program to train suicidal whale weapons of mass destruction?

    Someone needs to investigate!

What makes you think I wouldn't answer, "YES! ABSOLUTELY. Uh Huh."

As for whether or not I think David Griffin is a crackpot: I hadn't heard of him . . . don't know him . . . no direct personal opinion.
BUT, on the other hand, his publisher has an opinion . . .

"The board believes the conspiracy theory is spurious and based on questionable research."

     WHEW! That makes me want to go read some good laughable fiction.
I wonder if this is the beginning of a new 'religion' based off of fictitious writings which were originally meant as a joke. AKA Dianetics . . . FSM . . .

There's more involved in the background checks than some simple background check. And the base mandates that the company perform these investigations before allowing them to drive on the base.

It goes a lot deeper than just some simple checksheet that the employees fill out, and should there be a perceived threat, the base goes on lockdown. End of story. That's happened A LOT around here since 9/11 - I can't count the number of times in the past 5 1/2 years a lockdown has occurred because a.) there's been so many of them and b.) it continues to happen. We don't have a lot of terrorists running around here, but security is that tight here.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("Tom 6850")</div>
Right. And upon discovery of a weapon the perpetrator is immediately arrested and the weapon is confiscated.
