    Was that with cruise control? There's no denying that the Prius is the most economical car at a practical size and a great value, but is 43.3 mpg what others would expect on a 75 MPH 400+ mile trip? Could you tell us what tires you are running and at what PSI and mileage, for the tires and the vehicle?

    Yes, I got about 44 mpg on a recent 800 mile road trip going 70 - 80 mph using cruise control most of the time. Had around 600 miles on the car at the outset with stock Integrity tires inflated to 42 f/40 r. The car was pretty loaded down with me, the wife, and 2 young kids (one in a carseat one in a booster seat) and a full cargo area. Probably 500+ lbs worth of passengers and stuff.

    Hey, Highly Impriused,

    The trip to Sacramento was, for a Northern California freeway, streight with some rolling hills and very little traffic. We do this trip twice a month and the results are always the same. I bought the Prius in January of this year and now have 6500 miles on it, gas milage is consistant, gas prices aren't!

    The low-pressure warning is if the tire is in imminent danger of hitting the rim on the ground. It's good as a backup emergency indicator so you don't lose the tire, but it doesn't mean the tire is properly inflated. The recommended pressure on the door plate is 35 psi front, 33 in rear. Since the tires themselves are rated at 44 psi, many people here take the doorplate numbers to be the minimum and add a few (or ten) pounds in the tires, for better fuel economy and tire wear. Others have questioned if this is safe (some anecdotal reports on braking seems to be skittish), but there's no question that going under 35/33 will hurt the fuel economy and the life of the tire.

    Fish what color is your car? Did you drive on I-80 at all before getting to Sac?

    I could have sworn I saw a couple in a Prius that looked like you guys while I was commuting back to school. I was in a red Prius with shiney wheels, tinted windows, and a skinny guy with sunglasses driving. B) <... like that guy

    Hey, F8L ...

    We are in Sacramento and Citrus Heights twice a month, usually on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Yes, We do use I-80 to get to Citrus Heights or if I have a yen to wander Fry's .

    My Prius is "red" and supports a scanner antenna on the rear passenger side small window. The car also has "Press" plates. [attachmentid=8040]I notice there is an abundance of Prius in the Sacramento area.
