HELP: EV switch installation broke key sensor!

    Help! I decided today was the day I was going to install the factory EV switch. After reading all the information I could find, I started the process. Everything progressed relatively smoothly and now I have the switch installed. I attempted to test the switch out, but the car wouldn't start (key was in my pocket). The dash indicated 'no key', so I inserted the key into the keyhole and the car started up. The EV switch appears to be working... I hit the button and I get a 'beep' and the ICE shuts off, hit it again, another beep and the ICE starts back up. But my key sensor doesn't work! The lock/unlock buttons still works. The car doesn't sense the key near the doors or in the driver seat. I tried my second key and same thing. HELP!

    '04 Prius.

    I'm not the Electrical Tech but I have to ask the question. Is there a difference after you push the button to enable/disable the SKS? You'd be surprised how often asking "Is it plugged in? Is it turned on?" solves the problem. Everyone is entitled to a bonehead mistake now and again. I hope this solves the problem.

    I bet that when you were installing the button you accidentally hit the SKS OFF button under the steering wheel. This will cause the car to ignore the fob unless it's in the dash. (Though the door lock and unlock buttons on the fob will still work.) If I'm right, pressing the SKS button again will turn it back on.

    Yes that was it... I remember reading about the button when I purchased the vehicle 2 years ago and I wondered then why you would need this button and why it was put there...

    oh well problem solved. Thanks for the help

    Congrats on the new install.

    I'm glad it was a simple fix. Trust me, I know all too well that pit-of-the-stomach, what-the-hell-have-I-done feeling when the car doesn't start.

    Smart key disable button was added in order to help prevent 12V battery discharge while the car is parked for an extended period of time.
