What car does your Prius replace?

My prius replaced a 2000 ss camaro six speed and what a car that was.I loved it.Got 28 to33mpg on reg gas.The gear ratio in sixth gear was 0.50 to1,and at 70mph was only turning 1500 rpm.But now i have a different goal,gas mileage over speed.Love my prius.

 

I replaced a 1997 Mercury Sable. It was a great car in it's time, and gave me no trouble whatever. It got 25-28 MPG. The trunk was very unhandy and seemingly small. Then the used car dealer installed a CD Changer inside the top of the trunk. That made trunk space all but unusable for suitcases or other large objects. I got the Merc with 60,000 miles on it and put on 107,000 more miles. It never had exhaust or transmission work and hadn't had new brakes in 97,000 miles ... so some major expenses were down the road. Surprisingly, my 2007 Prius has more room for hauling and for people ... especially in the back seat. It's more comfortable and the seats are a dream compared to the Mercury ... even without the electronic controls on the Mercury. Of course turning radius is even better in the Prius ... and pickup is very good. I can't see the downside of the change to a new Prius. It's lots of fun to drive. When this car has 170,000-250,000 miles on it, I'll buy another one in a heartbeat!

 

I actually replaced my 2005 Toyota Matrix AWD....fantastic car and sorry to see it go, but it was only managing 24 MPG which I've more then doubled since going to the Prius. I'll miss the winter stability and handling, but my pockets feel heavier already! Plus who can resist all the new electronic gadgets I have to play with now

 

Mine doesn't replace anything. As a matter of fact, it is really doing nothing more than taking up garage space right now. Its too small and akward for me for daily use. I much prefer the 760li for daily use. Yeah, okay hammer away. It get 16 mpg in town and 26 on long trip. Not bad for nearly 5000lbs. It beats the heck out of the Pri in comfort.

I use the H2 to transport the dogs and tow the horse trailer. Before everyone gets upset, I only put about 5000 miles a year on the road in all my cars combined. Maybe 1000 were on the Prius last year. My wife drives it once and a while and I guess I'll let my daughter have it next year when she turns 16. Only if I can truely believe that it is safe though. It just doesn't feel safe to me even though I know it is. (I had a head on collision so not much feels safe to me) Actually, since November, I have driven the Ferrari more than the Prius.

No, I really have no idea why I bought it. Guess I was feeling guilty about all the fuel I dumped through carbs in my life. Who knows. FWIW, It does seem to store well. Fires right up everytime when if its been sitting for months.

Maybe now that a few Hydrogen stations have opened up in the states, BMW will sell me on of the hydrogen 7 series car. That would be SWEET!!!!

 

Not replacing anything, well we did trade in a 98 exploder for it, but it was just sitting around. I have a 99 F350 Dually diesel for family outiings and any horse related activities, we also have a 2001 Crown Vic which is a nice comfy car to drive. It is a big change going from driving the F350 everyday to this car, but the savings in fuel is enormous, I can go 4 weeks on what I spent on one week in the truck on diesel. I actually had no intentions on buying the Prius when I test drove it, but the numbers were good, and we could afford it. The seat tends to be a little uncomfortable only because my arms are too short for the leg room. If it had either a telescoping steering wheel or more front legroom it would be a much more comfortable car to drive.

 

Replaced 2004 Lincoln LS. I have doubled my gas mileage and the inside space is bigger on the Prius. You wouldn't think it, but my kids actually fit better in the Prius backseat! Love the car so far!

My husbands Prius replaced his 1992 ford Ranger. He was spending somewhere around 3k/year for gas *dies*

When i get mine (soon hopefully, my cars for sale!) I'll be replacing my 2003 Mustang I'm spending just under 2k in gas a year. & owning my own business, I get paid for miles, which would really help when I have the prius!!

 

I went from a '93 Explorer (14 mpg) to the Prius (44 mpg so far).

The Explorer was a freebie and it came in handy for a while, but I'm glad to have something more rational now.

 

1994 Camry V6 XLE (sold 10 days ago for $2800). I kind of miss the leather interior, 6 way power-adjustable driver's seat, telescopic steering wheel and larger trunk.

I do not miss the 20mpg, the lack of A/C or ABS (sensors were broken by mechanics replacing the half-axles) and rather expensive repairs.

I do not miss its looks either!

 

Traded in an '04 Chrysler PT Cruiser. It was such an uncomfortable car for me to drive. The wife and I carpool together everyday about 45 miles each way so she ended up doing most of the driving (probably so she didn't have to listen to me whine.) I feel a lot better now with the Prius, it's a lot more comfortable and fun to drive and I'm happy to kick her out of the drivers seat when she picks me up after work now.

 

05 Jeep Liberty

 

Replaced our 2003 Dodge Intrepid SE with a 2002 Prius. The price was right, the color was right, and the car was, well, right. After getting this car I've started thinking about replacing my Tacoma 4x4 with a Prius. However, the Prius can't tow, and there's no room to put a snowmobile inside, so alas, there shall be no Prius for me.

You know, I had a 1989 Firebird Formula 350, and I can't say that the 'Bird was half as much fun as the Prius is!

And, strangely, when I need to go, the Prius can go! I mean, I can feel the acceleration in this car! Why do so many people complain about low acceleration and so forth?

It can be a rocket when it wants to. Suprises me too since I was so used to my turbo charged F350 Dually with 380HP and 700 lbft of torque. It may not be as comfortable as the truck and my crown vic, but it sure is more fun to drive than the vic. Now if they could only make a 7 passenger diesel powered hybrid thats affordable. I'll buy it.

2001 BMW 325is 4 Door 5 speed. Loved the car never had a problem with it handled like it was on rails and still got 29mpg on long trips.

I traded it for a Prius because I was no longer satisfied with good gas mileage I wanted great mileage. Plus I was getting tired of getting pulled over for speeding

So far my Prius has exceeded my expectations at 55mpg in town and 45mpg on my trip to California Last weekend.

 

2002 VW Jetta Wagon

The backseat was just too tight for adult humans. And, my new job is an hour's commute away. The 30mpg was just not cutting it!

 

My Barcelona Red 07 Touring, pkg 6 replaced my gold 2000 Chrysler 300M.

Chrysler was great, but at 52,000 miles I was ready to get more in step with environmental issues
and help out via higher MPGs.

While only 2 1/2 weeks new, the Prius has proven herself a great vehicle. Handling, quiet, space, technology, and mpg to name a few standout qualities.

My silver 2007 package 4 replaced a 2002 Saturn SL2. The Saturn was great, still in wonderful condition, and getting about 34 mpg. However, with a 100 mile round trip commute, the Saturn had reached 100,000 miles and we sold it to someone who considered it a low mileage car. I will miss the Saturn but I know it has gone to a good home.

The Prius is more comfortable than the Saturn and is fun to drive. It is even easier to speed in than the Saturn but cruise control keeps my speed down on the highway. In addition, since it is so quiet I find myself in a more mellow mood while driving.

In three and a half weeks I have driven nearly 2000 miles, filled the tank 4 times, and saved $44 in fuel costs compared with the same distance with the Saturn. I have been very happy with the mpg; the tanks so far have been 42.5, 49.6, 50.3, and 53.2 as calculated by miles driven/gallons purchased with a lifetime average of 49 mpg.
