I'm glad that was it. Sometimes my guesses are lucky.

I'm not sure I'm totally following this thread. I have a 2007 Nav and would like to use all of the touchscreen functions when the car is moving. Am I understanding correctly that I have two options for doing this -- 1) use an older nav DVD or create a new hybrid DVD that uses the current map data and older firmware; or 2) install a Lockpick device ?

Is that right, and are there differences in functionality between the two options?

    Thanks,
    Alan

Work with me here a second people... In Australia, we don't have voice nav. It was omitted probably because it wouldn't unnerstand aussie accents.

That isn't a problem for me because I'm from the great white north.

Now, I know the voice recognition is crap and misses at least 50% etc., but I'm a geek and I wanna wanna have it!

    So....

Would it be possible to create a hybrid disc with the 5.1 loader on it and the Australian maps? And, does the 5.1 loader contain the actual navigation software? And, (you can see where this is going), wouldn't this software have the voice stuff in it that the Aussie one doesn't?

Finally, last question, if I created such a hybrid (with a little 5.1 assistance from my cousins (that's y'all)) and stuck it in my car nav player and reset it, would it down or upgrade things and would that be reversable should it not work?

    Ya see? Cleverness, no?

    Dir

I suspect this is a 'doable' option. But, you'll need a mic, a way to activate the system (ie we have a button on the steering wheel), also, I suspect it's possible that there may be some hardware component missing that's necessary to make it all work.

It would be a heck of a project.

Forgot to mention that I already have all that - it's got bluetooth (and a mic) built in, it's got the voice button on the steering wheel for voice-activated dialling, etc.. It just doesn't accept any other voice commands. When you push it and you're not on the phone screen, it pops up, "Voice <something> is not available on this screen."

The screenshots posted on this forum of the screens in the Prius 06/07 (I have an 07) are identical to what I see, so I expect it's the same underling operating system. My old BMW's screen and nav was all updated via the nav DVD, so I'm hoping the same is true with the Toyota.

The only problem is whether the Australian map data is the same; or for that matter, if the disc has any of the same files on it that has been mentioned in this forum.

Ah, then a hacked disc probably would work fine...try it out!

Option one will work only in the 04 and 05 models which have the previous generation GPS system with a lower resolution screen.

That's correct -- this 'Hybrid' trick would only work with GEN 4 navigation systems -- maybe earlier gens also, but definitely not GEN 5.

Since 'Dir' has an '07 Prius, he probably has a GEN 5 navigation system. I don't think the hybrid disk will work on that system.

It's possible I'm wrong about this (don't tell my wife it's possible for me to be wrong). In this thread an 07 Lexus owner claims to have used basically the same method to unlock his nav system. Maybe it works with GEN 5....

Perhaps a way of determining this is to see if there's really a difference between the LOADING.KWI file on the 6.1 version of the NAV dvd for the '05 Prius and that for the newer Prii.

    The md5sum on the 6.1 LOADING.KWI file for the '05 is 9faf44973e659cb3b763c5de60f29a84.
If the md5sum is the same (probably doubtful) on the newer nav system, then it seems making a working hybrid disk might be possible.

Has anybody done it with a Mac (OS X)? I have a 4.2 and got a new 6.1 for Gen4. I tried to do the same process with Toast 7 and Disk Utility. So far, I made two bricks ;-( What I need is a tool to do the "Injection" above... What's the Mac equivalent of WinImage?

And I liked the new "constant scrolling" feature (hold your finger on the screen to keep the map scrolling) on the new DVD. Will it be kept in the hybrid disk?

    Thanks.

Anyone got the md5sum on the Gen 5 ver 5.1 LOADING.KWI?

NOPE, I try it. I create a hybrid disc using the info from clublexus.com. After a few coaster disc, I successfully create a hybrid disc using Prius Gen 5 V 6.1 data + Gen 5 V 5.1 LOADING.KWI found here. But the DVD failed to load when I insert into my 07 navigation.

Does anyone know if the loader file for 4.2 is any different to 5.1? Is there improvements in 5.1?

The 5.1 loader takes away the service menu that allows you to override the lockout while the car is in motion. It is a giant step backward.

Edit: Oops. Wrong. It is the 6.1 version that deleted access to that menu. Sorry about that.

I created a CD with version 4.2 Laoding.KWI file for 2005 prius (Gen 4 Nav). But when I put the disc in, everything appears fine. But when I try to change the search area, nothing happens. Then when I try to enter a destination, I get an error something like "No search area".

Anyone know what the problem may be?

    thanks.

I will be attempting to make a Gen 5 hybrid disc this weekend. I made a Gen 4 6.1 copy with no problems.

Did you reset the system (unplug the nav under the driver's seat) after putting in your new disk?

    hi
i know this is not a camry forum, but i googled this topic and came across this site. i am looking for a cheap copied version 2 (2002 camry) GPS maps DVD 6.1. I do not care about overriding anything, i just want the new maps but do not want to pay $300 for it. Ill gladly pay for the dual layer disc + shipping + time/effort. pm me if you want to make a few bucks, thanks

    Welcome to PriusChat.
What you're asking for is blatantly illegal both for you to buy and for someone to do for you...So long as both parties are aware of that and it's known that Priuschat is not condoning the practice you guys do what you feel is ethical.
