I am considering trying to make something like a slipcover for the console cover on our 2006 Prius. We've the standard interior with that ultrasuede-like console cover. It looks okay now, but with 2 young kids and my own skill in spilling coffee, etc. I know it's only a matter of time before it's disgusting.

Have any of you any experience/advice in making/buying such a cover?

    TIA!

Hi we bought a complete set of seat covers for front and rear that came with the console cover and rear bolsters .
I think the cost total with shipping was 49.50 not a bad price for covers that fit very well , people who ride with us did not know they were seat covers even.
got them from exactsesatcovers.com but we used their ebay sales site I think if you use their web site it is more costly check ebay for exactseatcovers.com

here is a link to their ebay page

When we got our GT seat covers, it came with a cover for that.

Got rid of the cloth for a whole leather for exactly that reason . . . YES, disgusting is what you're in for B)
Check Ebay . . . there's a person who regularly sells retrofit covers.

Thanks for the info-I also just picked up a set on E-Bay and the savings were substantial-$48.90 vs $91 including shipping.

I have side curtain airbags, so how would I put the covers on? I mean, how does that work?

If your seat has the airbag there is a section on the seat cover that allows for the airbag to deploy.
    looks nice
we have the airbag in the seat also and have the seat covers with the section that allows for bag deployment

I also bought the seat cover set through E-bay. If you want something relatively inelegant, but cheap, easy, and effective, just lay a folded inexpensive hand towel atop the lid. I did that before I put the cover on, but decided to keep it afterward for extra protection and extra padding for my elbow. Unfolded, it makes a great bib and lap cover for when I'm eating sloppy burgers and such. And it makes a quick and effective "mop" for spilled liquids. I then wash it at the next opportunity, but it's cheap enough that I don't worry about permanent stains.

I covered my console with vinyl which exactly matches my seats. I removed the whole cover from the car, pulled out the plastic inner piece, recovered the lid, then reassembled. Smoothing the corners is a nuisance, but the rest was easy.

I received my covers and am having a difficult time installing the bottoms. The top and bottom of the seat is sealed so I can't get the required straps and velcro through. How did you handle that?

I almost forgot. If you're looking for the console cover alone, there's a company called Prius Hoods which makes leather covers for the center console as well as the arm rests. They also make a sun shield for the MFD.

Not sure from your description exactly what your problem is, but it could be similar to one that some of us had with the front covers. After discussing it with others in this thread, I concluded it probably was a minor manufacturing defect with the wrong Velcro piece sewn on. That thread describes a workaround suggested by another member, and that has been successful for me. That's been the only problem at all. The covers are holding up well and overall I'm pleased.

I use a southwest print table place mat draped over the console. Adds a little subtle color to the car's interior.

A colored towel works fine for me. I'm not sure what Toyota was thinking but the console top should have been more like what they did on the 2001 RAV4, a textured plastic. Nothing looks worse than torn, stained or dirty fabric in a car.

Finally found the solution to installing the front seat bottom covers. You first must unhook the flap coming down the rear of the upper seat cover where it hooks on under the seat to the springs. Two elastic straps are fastened to the flap and they simply are unhooked by pushing them forward. You can then get the back of the new seat covers out the rear and put the straps from the front to the holders on the rear, then re-hook the original upper seat flap back on the seat springs. Still can't get the side velcro straps under the seat.

Yes, I got the one from Prius Hoods and it's great! Easy to put on and it will sure protect the looks of the interior. I got the arm rests as well, but I'm not as impressed with those. At least they will keep the cloth arm rests protected until I get sick of the tacky look of the covers. They were a bear to put on as well as looking cheesy. Oh well, at least I won't get so worried about a service technician or my husband getting the interior dirty. What I really was worried about is just everyday grime from just body oil.

I have sheepskin covers fitted, including the centre console lid. They look great, are cool in summer and warm in winter. When you sell the car, take them off, dry clean and refit to the new car.
