lol. At least it's beige. When I was up there, I was surprised at the number of white cars. I figured people would go for something OTHER than white.

I guess there's no chance of getting the government rebates, if you import the car. They say our dollar could be at par with the U.S. by the end of the year, which could make it more appealing. I like the idea of having a metric car though. Our dollar gains in value, but everything remains at the same price. I guess at least the Prius is cheaper than it is in Europe. I guess it means that Toyota makes a bigger profit, as our currency goes up. They'd sell more if they lowered the price though, you'd think. I just wish the side air-bags were standard, since I don't really need all the extras on the package B, not that I'd mind having them, the price difference seems like a lot, for airbags and a better stereo.

Why not? You just have to fill out a form to get your PST back rather than having it deducted at the point of purchase (if you buy from a BC dealer).

It's not just bags and speakers  . There's VSC which is great with the slush we get around here. Oh and you will want the SKS, trust me. Best feature ever! You may think it's a gimmick but when you have your hands full, being able to reach for the door or rear hatch without fumbling for keys is a convenience I'd pay for. When I was loading up my friend's Matrix, I was just thinking, if he had SKS, I"d just use my free hand to open the hatch. As such, he had to balance his load and reach into the pocket to press the unlock button.

Yeah, I've decided not to import because of the metric/imperial measurements issue. It is painful though right now with the loonie doing so well, and having to upgrade to package C to get the backup camera which comes standard on all US Prii :(

I might even buy a Versa or a Sentra (Nissan) at this point. It's quite the mental leap to pay $35k for a new 2007 Prius in Ontario when the Americans are paying $25k at most. Especially when I can get a maxed out Versa or Sentra for $25k.

Just having some second thoughts :) Plus it looks like I'll have to wait for the 2008 Prius at this point, and don't really want to wait until the fall and then have to pay sticker price.

    Sigh.

There's no point getting the navigation system here. It's $3,000. Stick with a Package "B" and get yourself a nice portable unit from FS, BB or any other electronic store. Even the most expensive widescreen portable ones are $1,000.

What about an HCH-II? In BC, you can get one without tax (b/c of all the rebates, it works out to zero taxes on the car). Or a base TCH at $32,000 with 90% of the features of a Prius Package "B". (It's just missing foglights and a screen but adds a powerful stereo, VDIM, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, larger wheels/tyres, 7 airbags and power driver's seat.

I knew I was missing something, yeah the VSC would be needed here, since the snow we get is so wet and slick, and I'm coming from a awd subaru. You forget what it's like with the wheelspin on fwd. I think they need to get the pricing more inline with the Camry pricing. I don't want a Camry, because I don't like sedans. I'll probably wait until the 2009, hopefully there'll be something good then, I know if probably won't be a plug-in though.

Here's a spreadsheet I did to compare the various hybrids offered. I ignored trucks. It's done in "Openoffice", which is a free replacement for Word, Outlook, a drawing program, and a database.

Well, it's not loading into this message. And I can't delete this message. Nice!

I really liked the Altima Hybrid. Nice ride! Same size and fuel economy as the Camry Hybrid, but less expensive, sort of. Options are different so it's difficult to judge value apples to apples. Only problem I saw with it is it may be "orphaned", as it currently uses the Toyota Synergy system under licence, but the head of Nissan has been quoted as saying he wants Nissan to develop their own system asap.

Well obviously that won't happen til the redesign to preserve the resale value of our Priuses. The TCH price is probably subsidised by our Prius purchase. The stock Integrity sucks. I expect the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 tyres (top-of-the-line) on the TCH to perform much better.

Here's a comparison of what one vehicle has over the other.

    NAH:
    - more power
    - heated seats
    - slightly better city economy, worse highway economy
    - better shaped trunk/boot
    - rear door pockets
    - dual exhausts
    - one-touch power front windows
    - remote and key operated front windows
    - dual illuminated vanity mirrors
    - rear reading lights
    - available wood trim
    - alarm system
    - lighter by nearly 70kg
    - speed-sensitive wipers
    - rear spoiler

    TCH:
    - Plasmacluster ioniser air filter
    - rear adjustable headrests
    - folding rear seats
    - rear vents
    - compass
    - $998 cheaper
    - auto-dimming mirror
    - 440W JBL Synthesis Audio system with 8 speakers, 6CD/MP3 Changer, RDS, diversity antenna
    - driver's knee airbag
    - bluetooth wireless connectivity
    - leather-wrapped steering wheel
    - leather-wrapped shift knob
    - Homelink
    - LED tail/brake lights
    - ECO-button for A/C

And of course the TCH is available with leather, moonroof, power passenger seat etc if you want leather in your hybrid.

Why wouldn't you buy a US Prius and import it?
Package #2 and above have VSC. A Touring model is only $1000 more than the non-Touring model and comes with HID lights, 16 inch wheels, larger spoiler, sport suspension. There is no Metric/Imperial issues, the Prius has a button that switches back and forth, I understand.
And I just bought a #2 Touring for $26,000 Canadian and since I am in B.C. I get PST back and Eco Rebate from the Feds. I think it is at least $10,000 cheaper than buying in Canada.

Yup that's another option. The Touring looks nice!

There shouldn't be an issue with most import cars (I don't know about domestics since you know they'll cut a corner if they could). Most import cars come with both km/h and mpg on the speedo.
